I would like the ability to gift to family and friends, beyond the ability to gift Mech Sets. I'd like to be able to share MC, mech bays, and even c-bills. Why isn't this function allowed? or is it and I'm just not seeing it?

They want to avoid the classic MMO "Gold Selling" thing, account trading, that sort of stuff. While you CAN (though obviously are not allowed to) sell your account, you cannot merge the contents of accounts, so PGI avoids a lot of issues there.

That makes sense, maybe it could be something like a faction play reward, like you can give away a single 'mech per rank up you go after the third or fourth, but you have to buy them a 'mech bay to do it.

That would help restrict the number of 'mechs flying around, make the gifting process more meaningful, generate a sale in the gifting process, and could even be restricted to fellow unit or faction members to keep it even more limited.
