Yea the AC sounds like a Drum or Bucket everytime I heard it.

The sounds from MW2 are superior than MWO. I always prefer MW2 Computer Voices.

Yeah, MW2 had the best in game voice...

Won't PGI ban you for using sound mods though?

Yup, PGI just needs to adopt that sound pack and make it the standard for this game. Sound really does help immersion and enjoyment in a game. Games with bad sound literally lose alot of amusement, even if the gameplay is solid....

PVE+MWO+That sound pack= Amazing.

Nope, IIRC they made a statement some time ago about sound mods being A-OK.

So... Johnny Z hates lasers? Are you truly hating on wub?

I proclaim Johnny Z a sound hacker, and need to be banned from using speakers ever. EVER!

I think weapon audio in general is pretty bad, in this game.
The only weapons that have even remotely decent sounds would probably be LBX autocannons and maybe the IS AC20.

Gauss is the worst, in my opinion. *Kchuuuu* *Pfew*

I also, really dislike the sound of PPCs. I think they should be more like loud thunder cracks

What I want my PPCs to sound like (1:40):

Looks a lot better too.

I don't understand why people don't like MWO's sound effects. In my opinion, they are one of the things they got right.

There are about 20 things this game needs in a bad way and I havnt even added the much needed Inner Sphere weapons audio update yet!!! The Clan weapons sound awesome. The Inner Sphere weapons sound like garbage. Posted Image

Do Clan weapons really need to sound OP to? Really?

This is maybe the third topic I have made about the bad audio, but my previous 2 were about Inner Sphere AC's specifically. I was just on PTS trying out AC's and the audio is so bad and loud I have to turn volume completely off. I really hope this gets updated.

Lasers are not to loud they just sound bad. :)

The sounds in that pack are independently cool, but there are problems:

1. They are recognizably from other games; the lasers are re-mixed versions of Xen sounds from Half-Life, the C-MG is the MG from Counter-Strike, the cUACs are also Counter-Strike sounds.

2. Thematically, they don't fit the game. They sound too dark for the game's current visual style. It's jarring. To add, they also clash with existing sounds.

3. The mixing is pretty hit and miss. Some sound too loud, others too soft. Lasers especially have that wind-blowing noise at the end and it is both inconsistent in volume and silly sounding. Especially in space.

Laser as powerful as in MWO would heat up the air eventually to temperatures creating a plasma. The rapidly expanding air would make quite some noise.

Pulse laser would sound like that: or

Except that's not what the sound effect is. The sound effect is the sound of a strong wind blowing through a canyon. That's not what it's going to sound like. A more appropriate sound would be the report you hear after firing a rifle round. It's a clap, not a gust.

Or maybe this.

Or one of these.

Or one of these.

But what MechWarrior has now is really bad sorry to say. Really really bad. :)

Thats incredible that that change alone makes the game at least 50% better. I mean a full fledged proper 50% extra value, with minimal effort.

I have to agree, when you think about it the audio is very lacking in MWO. Not only is it dull and uninspiring but it also sounds inaccurate.
For example if you hired a team of scientist to create the worst possible sound for an Ultra AC 20 you would get what we have in MWO. Its really like someone baging on an empty drum. This video demonstrates what the weapon sounds should sound like. IMO its not that hard to figure out.

If an amateur guy can get it right a dev company should know better, and I have seen this time after time in games, even big budget companies like PD and Gran turismo.

I believe he is still working on the mod, I handed him some more sound effects to use, I also think not only weapons but the mech sounds themself could do with more oomf, start up and power down, foot steps and impact sounds, but yea this guy has nailed awesome sounds so far.

Actually went ahead and installed it after seeing the vid. Aside from the autocannons sounding a little low caliber (could use a bit of a deeper sound) for the size of the projectiles, it really improves the soundscape of the game.
