I ignore if there were any posts on this so far, because i am really pissed about this game mode.

Why is there even a choice for any mechs on the scout missions?
I have done a few of these now. And the only mech, that was not 50 or 55 tons was my mech.
On Clan side there is only one mech at all. Stormcrow.

Why cant you make this a little more balanced. That there is even a feeling for a scout mission, and not a 55 ton only fight.

The stormcrow is a fast medium that has many different builds that are all really good in that mode, why wouldn't people bring it? It's not like you can't counter it.

I don't understand what your complaint is.

When you are collecting data, 3 meds + 1 light, works well. If defending 4 meds is way to go.

Clan boat = omnipod = many different builds.

And balance is very much between teams, less with mechs they bring. Balancing by poking mechs is doomed to fail.

I used to run a blackjack. I think it would still work, fast enough to beat a storm crow anyways. I'm amazed you didn't see more Novas or Arctic Cheetah (or OXIDE on the IS side, I used to see whole teams of oxides early on)

Ryokens have weak legs; Eat them.

Yes, most scouting missions aren't really scouting and are medium class brawls. That's the mode that PGI gave us; take it or leave it.

The rewards are too small to garner my interest, outside of events.. but some people enjoy it.

I mean there is nothing stopping the attacking team from just grabbing intel. If people brawl than that is their choice but it's the defenders side to kill you so if they catch up to you than expect a fight. I don't understand how that could be played differently, it's not like the defenders should be just twiddling their thumbs as they watch you cap intel.

There is no incentive to play the mode because you only get bonuses for brawling. If the rewards were fixed I think we would see less 4v4 rumble in the jungle matches.

Also I see a lot of novas and the occasional fridge mixed in as well as cheetahs. Stormcrows are forgiving if the enemy doesn't aim for the chicken legs.

Light mechs ironically work better in bigger matches where they aren't such a high priority target and can flank much easier.

That is why all the modes are just Team Deathmatch. PGI sure can design a game.

the doom crow pretty much ensures that any is player running a light is an idiot. sometimes you will see a last second charge to the drop zone in a locust or some other light capable of 150+ kph, and that might work one out of four times, but generally results in much streaking and many broke legged lights limping towards the drop zone under heavy fire. so when i saw clan pilots complaining about not getting their light kmdds in scouting, it kind of brought a smile to my face. delayed karma lol.

I use a Mist Lynx on scouting missions and my two friends use Jenner IICs, so not all clanners. Posted Image

Besides, I can say the same for IS. Stop using Centurions and Hunchbacks please. xD

And here I am, almost always taking a cheetah. Granted, I volunteer for the light part of the light and 3 meds strat, but it works.
If our group is really light, I will take a nova. They melt stuff ;)

The issue is simple:

IS side: Terribads have lots of mediocre mechs to chose and put crappy builds on them -- as a result you end up with more bad mechs and bad builds than good mechs and good builds.

Clan side: You have 3 really great mechs or several craptastic mechs. Since the difference between the great mechs and the shitastic mechs is painfully obvious to even the most lug-headed terribad, it is easier for terribads to recognize the difference and they will choose the great mech. Even by random picking, a clanner terribad has a higher chance of choosing a decent mech.

The end result : You end up with 1 IS player in a good mech and 3 players in LRM-boat trebs and the clan side are nova's crows and cheetahs.

Scouting itself isn't the problem -- its the IS players and their rare ability to convince themselves that "I'm Helping!" in their AC20 cicada w/ a half ton of ammo and no armor.

-edit-
Crows are a non-issue when I drop a 4-man scouting where we all have decent mechs.
