Just curious....

I remember reading all the Gray Death Legion books a ways back, and if I recall correctly they recovered some significant technology that was at least as good as clan tech. The library core "found its way into every Successor State within a few years, and sparked a technological renaissance." [3028 seems to be the date of the discovery and dissemination].

Was this event before the Bushwacker was released? What tech do you think would be applicable here? Better XL engine survivability so an IS mech can remain somewhat mission capable after a hit there? Larger UAC's and LBX's? More streaks per volley?

Any opinions or someone with more lore knowledge than I have would be great!

Thanks!

The helm memory core brought things like XL engines and pulse lasers which basically didn't exist before that. What we have now is essentially because of the helm memory core.

*edit*
To clarify the Helm Memory Core was found in 3028 and we are currently in roughly 3053. The advances from the core have already happened and are in use.

3053 is the production year for the Bushwacker according to http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Bushwacker

So...I hope the devs are changing or adding to what tech is available to IS mechs....or will they just quirk the heck out of it?

Ah...didn't know that. I assumed that this game started much earlier than that, and the quirks were in place to make IS mechs somewhat competitive vs. their clan weight classes...

Quirks, as per IS norm. There's no new tech planned.

Well quirks are kind of meant to bridge the gap between IS and Clan here. Lore wise Clan tech at this point was vastly superior to IS tech even with the memory core.

The Helm Memory Core reintroduced Star League Era technology to (most of) the IS, which was far ahead of what the Successor States had but also far behind the Clan technology. The IS in MWO already has pretty much everything from this Core.

The Bushwacker BSW-L1 with the LB-20X and the LFE actually represents a step above Star League technology, though still inferior to the Clans.

The 3028 technological Renaissance brought about many lost technologies including ERLL:

3050 also had one as Clan equipment was captured and reverse engineered. The IS got stuff like Battle Armor and new battlemechs (the Bushwacker came into being with the help of the Vulture). Lots of experimental weapons and ammo showed up too (Silver Bullet Gauss, caseless AC ammo, etc). And then in 3058 the newer IS tournament-legal weapons begin to appear and continued into the 3080s.

But as of right now, our technology is stuck at 3049 levels.

The players need to realize:

There is no timeline in MWO.

First, PGI decided to stop ISN news updates. Then they reset the timeline, so the game stayed in year 3050 for two years. Then they abandoned the timeline all together, so we were stuck in 3052. Then they just flipped the table and said: "F*ck it. Screw the lore. We just wanna sell any mechs from Battletech, without adding more content (i.e. weapons, equipment, etc) to the game. We'll invent as many variants as we need to sell our mech packs."

Basically, just look at any existing mech design in Battletech. If it looks cool, we can have it in the game. Only 1 variant that has 3050-era technology? No problem. PGI will invent the other 4 variants and add a hero mech. No lore required.

That would seem to indicate that they're keeping it around 3050
