I own and have used both. I think the 4SP is better overall because with the present quirks it has very strong structure buffs compared to the 4J and running an XL in a Hunchie is asking for trouble. It trades a small reduction in throw weight for much greater toughness. Check the numbers!

Love the 4J and have lots of seat time in it but the 4SP is great. Surprised PGI hasn't "noticed" those structure buffs yet and removed them lol.

Yep, 4SP is a beast. I wrote in a thread that HBK-4SP is most likely to be nerfed along with BLR-2C in the next quirkening, but so far they managed to elude Paul's gaze. Which is sad news for my Clan opponents in Scouting mode. :P

Back to point....4 games in a row, 3 wins 1 loss. Died twice. 11 kills. 500+ damage each game, LOTS of components destroyed, and in almost every game... if I didn't kill it...I got the assist on it. Last game I picked up a KDK-3 and a Slepnir with the SRMs, and I think it was another KDK-3 that died under the LRM barrage. Too bad the rest of the team that game only managed two kills between them all. Posted Image Anyway it is a giggle-fest on my part every time I take it into a match. I think five is the perfect number of LRM5 launchers to chain fire with the cooldown module and virtually no interruption other than for cooling.

That's good news. I do feel that your build has excessive amount of ammo in it though, for both type of launchers. Have you managed to empty 90% of them in a match? Perhaps a ton of reduction from each type of ammo for slightly bigger engine might be more effective.

Something like this? ARC-5W Modified

I don't think I played my Archer during the leaderboard event but I love mine as well. I am running a different build than you are, however. I despise being helpless in a brawl, so I run mine with 5 LRM5s in the torsos and 4 SRM4s in the arms. Makes me deadly at any range. There's even a sweet spot where the enemy is in range of my SRMs but out of my LRMs minimum range and that is a particularly dangerous place to be.

Oh mine is a walking bomb with 2400 damage in missiles. But yes, I have had quick matches where I've emptied the LRM bins and been down to the SRMs alone. I don't like being the guy with empty bins hiding in the corner shutdown pretending to be a corpse like I often see in quick play.

Yeah, my Archer runs out of LRM ammo if it's a target rich environment as well, even though I pack enough LRMs to kill multiple 'mechs. When that happens, I put on my brawling gloves. Since my SRMs are in my arms instead of my torsos I don't even have to worry about my launch bay doors which aren't a problem when firing LRMs but can really mess you up in a brawl by exposing you to crits and delaying the launch of your SRMs. I once saw an Archer 5W with the LRMs in the arms and the SRMs in the torso. I wonder what that guy was thinking.

I like my7 5w, though I have not got ungodly with my launchers yet. I run 5Xlrm 5 + 2 x Streak 2 with two tone of streak ammo and 10 tons of LRM ammo. I run a 340 xl because I like playing cat and mouse. I have max armour just because.

I don't notice a big difference between artemis and non artemis on lrm5's.
I does SEEM to me, that artemis gives me more components and more kills with LRM 10+

TL;DR

Archer is awesome.
This was my first build.

I didn't participate in the heavy boards.

Yeah, it's really kind of pointless to put Artemis on an LRM5 or an SRM2. Debatable whether or not SRM4s need it. I find that my SRM4s really don't need it. Artemis is by far the most impressive on SRM6s. I used to run a splatapult that had no artemis and 4 SRM6. It was good. Then one day I decided to drop a few heat sinks and make room for artemis and holy crap the thing became so much more effective. Artemis on LRMs though is kinda situational. You only benefit from the tighter spread of the missiles if you have line of sight on your target. Indirect fire does not tighten up your spread. At any rate, LRM10s and above benefit from Artemis quite well if you're the type of LRM user that gets their own locks and doesn't sit behind a rock 900m back the entire match going "hold lockz plz".

Koniving...that's pretty much the same result I get out of mine every match. I'm having the worry though once I hit master unlock, I'll stop playing it for a long time like all my other mastered mechs. I do know already though of all the heavy unseens, the riflemen suck the most (other than legend killer, and its only because of the LBXs that I like it) because at 60 tons, I'd rather use my dragons or quickdraws, and jagers do all the same ballistic roles of the RFL with more free tonnage to work with. The marauders are kinda bland now, but the archers and warhammers are a blast.

Probably thinking how he could run at 90 degree angles or whatever to his target and still LRM. It's kinda like the difference between having a head mounted TAG vs an arm mounted one.

Of course, if you're 900m in the rear firing missiles, almost every target will probably be in the arc of your torsos.

Oh btw...you all know already that the 5W is the Wolf's Dragoons variant right? Do remember to apply the proper decals....

While build at the request of the Dragoons, it was build by a Lyran company on a Lyran world, so it was naturally found in Lyran units as well, albeit in smaller numbers than Defiance's ARC-5S. According to the MUL it was also available to other Mercs. And that makes sense. As successful as the Dragoons were, their market share is a little low to satisfy a true Lyran industrialist.

But you are right, no Mech should go without unit decal. Posted Image

On Topic:
The Archer is much better than its reputation - some of which was earned by players running configurations which just don't work on the Archer (like the laser boating) - but I would not call it a great Mech simply because the quirks are not optimal for a LRM boat.

I have something like this. I've run most of the time with 9xLRM 5 but because specially in early game the locks are very short, I've also tried to have 2xLRM 10 or 2xLRM 15. I think 9x5 is best, that will leave enough weight for better engine.

ARC-5W 9x Lurmer

WIth 9 LRM 5 it's a bit difficult to fire them efficiently, I have 3 groups of 3, but you need to have the lock for about 4 seconds or more. The continuos fire you are able to get is pretty rare. I also find IS weapons really weird, like the LRM 5, weights 2 tons, where as Clan LRM 5 weights 1 ton. Duh.

I'm currently trying out full 9x SRM 4-6 build but it doesn't look great, the range is so bad and it's not fast enough for ninja killing. I will try it for some more and then go for mixed build, I suppose 6 LRM 5 should be enough with 3 SRM of some kind.

I will definetly get a better engine once I get enough C-Bills, but that would require none Clan mechs being on sale.

Well my fear of master skilling ending using it was proven false. I use it almost every day and now the halloween warhorn has just increased the sheets and giggles factor. Especially when I laugh maniacally into the mic when I get a kill... had one guy ask why his warhorn doesn't sound that good....

just had this game in the bog...emptied the LRM ammo and used up half the SRM ammo. Had to kill the final two mechs alone (a warhamster and a deuce). I also bagged a screamer and a Malware and assisted on a raging case of crabbies.
