The reason only loyalists have probation is because they vote for attack lanes so probation is only there to mitigate gaming of the system.

Deserter is the title you will hold for 7 days when you leave a faction. I'm not sure it's forced to show or does it only show if you have selected the "current FP rank" as title.
I think probation is for people farming mechbays, the first one you get really fast from the loyalty points, but now as with the 10 fight probation period, it takes a lot longer during which you get really nothing.
