How this would function:
When entering quick play, the game checks if there are any open quick play solo group lobbies of appropriate (tier/elo/potato rating/whatever is intended to use) open and waiting for players. If so, then join that solo group lobby. (explained below)
If not, then create a solo queue group lobby. This is basically the private group play lobby, but altered to have basic functionality rather than full. Maps and modes are voted on. The first two players to enter are assigned to either side and assigned commander, which lets them rearrange lances and start votes. They can relinquish this role to others.
This SQGL would basically be a 12 vs 12 group match maker that persists between matches, and is only destroyed when the last person leaves. The lobby attempts to fill all free slots.
Optional: Ability for commanders to vote to make it an 8vs8 lobby
Each side is limited only by tonnage, and must arrange its mechs to fit the limit. Players can enter mechlab and such while in lobby, and their status is displayed.
Optional: Drop decks
Each lobby, the commander of each side picks two maps and two modes, and all players get to vote individually which ones they want with majority winning.
Votes can be started in the lobby to kick players that refuse to function or cooperate, but must have a majority (>50%).
TL;DR:
Somewhat modified private match lobby turned into a public system for solo pugging that persists between matches until you leave it.
