The continual hardpoint proliferation is rapidly invalidating previous generation mechs and contributing to the "Alpha Strike" problem. Case in point is the Cyclops and the Mauler. The Highlander will remain irrelevant in this game purely because all 90 tons released after it can boat weapons of a single type far better than it can.

Despite what others may think... many of a single weapon type allows you to win battles at a specific range and good positioning can get you to a specific range. A few of varied hardpoints and you can never be optimal at any range. Which means no matter where you position yourself you are going to loose trades at both short, medium, and long range.

Quit giving new mechs XXX of a specific hardpoint invalidating previous generation mechs.

This is especially true of clan battlemechs as they completely invalidate clan omni mechs.
