It is fairly easy to create a new account, join a faction, complete the tutorial and 10 match probation and vote in the Faction War.
Especially since the probation does not require actual participation in any of those 10 matches. You just need to drop 10 times.

Which means it is also fairly easy for a faction/unit to create multiple accounts, and use those accounts to sway the voting in their favor. The reasons for this can be strategic or political or just plain malicious. Regardless, it is very possible and most probably happening already.

To help combat this, I suggest that voting be the sole privilege of loyalists who have reached rank 10 in their faction. Or at the very least, rank 6. Granted it will still be possible to rig the voting but it will take a lot more work and deter all but the most dull individuals.

Also, it is another incentive for players to become loyalists and stick with factions long enough to rank up. The ability to vote should never be underestimated. It could easily be the difference between playing in the war all day or not playing at all for days on end!

Voterigging as you describe would actually require a disproportionate amount of effort to carry out and is unlikely to be as exploitable you may imagine. Non-participation is a bannable offense and its hard not to get reported when you commit can be reported with two clicks form a anyone, especially if that anyone can pin their loss on your being AFK/disconnected from the start of the match. Greifing, deliberate teamkills, sabotage, and "throwing a match" are equally bannable and such flagrant behavior is almost unimaginable to see going unreported.

What all that means is that in order to get enough votes to sabotage an attack cycle you would need a few dozen alts which you used to make passable efforts to defend a factions planets several hundred times over multiple accounts. Based on the numbers I see in que, this would almost be welcome. What would they even sabotage? Factions almost never have more than three or four attack options and in order for it to matter there need to be people queing up to attack anyway. The anonymous saboteur in this scenario must indeed be clever, as he is so crafty that he has tricked himself into fighting for the very cause he seeks to undo without him even realizing it! What terrifying intellect, I hope he had a vendetta against Kurita.

If you're seeing attack votes that seem insane, stupid, self destructive or purely nonsensical I'm afraid the probable cause is even bleaker then you already think. The terrible possibility is that the majority of the loyalist Jade Falcon player population is probably just really, really dumb. I am so sorry, there is no cure, the scientist caste can only do so much.

HOWEVER

If we want to reward commitment to a faction using the LP faction rank as our chosen method, then why not simply have each faction reputation rank count for one vote per level? This would meant that a Kuritan loyalist with the rank of Houjuhei would have one vote, while a Chu-i such as myself would have 11. I can't really say I can think of a substantial argument against this idea. It gives each and every player a say in faction level decisions while allowing the informed considerations of more senior members the appropriate weight that their experience and commitment are due.

i actually like your idea better. so the more loyal you are to a faction, the more your vote will count. brilliant!
