That CT hitbox takes it all....gawd...its worse than the kodiaks.... definitely needs some CT structure quirkage.

Which was posted well... well after I posted in this thread. Also, we still don't know what it sounds like. Timestamps are a thing.

I took the Hero out for a test drive on the new map in a pickup match. The horn sounds like a cheesy 50's movie style Egyptian themed horn effect, and I simply love it. It cracks me up.

The mech itself is all I could ever have hoped for as a Clan player. It is a superb answer to the inner sphere shadow hawk / griffin / wolverine trio of mediums, and I am a big fan of those mechs from old table top. Yeah, it's as fast as a Timber Wolf, a bit more maneuverable for turns / starts / stops (not by much though), has the jump jets a person would want due to its 'meh' range of speed, but holy cow.... 24 tons of pod space for clan weaponry.

This mech just became the de facto Timber Wolf of the Medium weight range for clan. No regrets on the purchase.

I WOULDN'T compare it to a timberwolf. Its more the summoner of the medium category. Pod space is about the same, slightly slower but 50% better jump distance.

ROFL, I forget I even ordered it until it appeared when I logged in, then I looked at my receipts to confirmed I had purchased it and that it was not gifted.. Trying to figure out why I purchased it in the first place. After reading a few of the last posts, I think I got it cause it was more like IS mechs of the same weight, the Shadowhawk, Wolverine and Griffins that I do like playing, and that I did not have but one stormcrow which I do not prefer.

Except..
With more free tonnage than it's peers, rather than less
Lots of available hardpoints, especially energy, unlike the Thor (with the recent exceptions of the currently unavailable Hero and the now unavailable-unless-qualified M and F variants)
Completely lacking the structure quirks that help the Thor out so much

Not really like the Thor of Mediums, maybe the Night Gyr of Mediums? Slow, lots of free tonnage, high mounts, good hard point selections.

Determined three things, after dumping a bunch of saved up GXP to master all the variants:

1. The side torsos are surprisingly not a particularly high risk of loss.
2. The mech can armor roll extremely well.
3. If, for whatever reason, you don't have a chance to armor roll, the mech detonates faster than an Afgani vest through center torso damage. Seriously, it is stupidly fast how quickly that CT can vaporize.

8x ASRM4 is vicious. Absolutely brutal if it gets someone one on one. On the other hand, it is miserable to try and run it in pug or group queue, and redlines the heat constantly. Very high risk, but very high reward. Probably best used in Scouting matches, 4v4.

It requires people to be a bit aggressive, or at least give you an opportunity to engage. Instead, people are pissing their pants in the corner the entire game, and moving up is suicidal without support, especially because the bullseye the event is putting on the mech.

2x UAC10 2x ERSLas, on the other hand, feels far and away more public drop friendly. Pushing out solid damage and high mobility for a mech its size, though it is about 1 ton shy of enough ammo to make me totally comfortable with it. Still, those arms are more likely to snap off than the ST, which is a huge benefit over the HBK-IIC.

TL;DR:

The mech has one glaring flaw, and it's a gigantic one. That CT hitbox is damned near impossible to miss. Would recommend either slightly larger Side Torso hitboxes, so they can absorb some more of that centrally targeted damage, or else structure quirks similar to the Nova applied to the CT only. It is better to lose a side torso on a CLX mech than take everything on the nose. Nothing but CT damage is guaranteed to be lethal, as opposed to Side Torso loss which is just heavily disruptive.

Agree about the STs being more durable than expected, already had a few battles where I was sure I'd be taken out... but lived... it definitely has that over the Hunchie IIc.

Also, one of the builds I like would not be possible at all on the Hunchie: 3 UAC 2s on RT/Ra and 4 ERSL on the LT/LA.
