Been a Couple Days now, Just Wondering What a Good Voltage would be for the Stock Cooler? I Checked the BIOS a Bit, Upped Multi to Run at 3.5GHz instead of 3.3GHz, Couldn't Turn off Turbo with Custom Multi, only stock, Also Turned off Thermal Throttling. Guessing Voltage setting is Auto, Looking at HWMonitor after playing some Dirt 3 (No VSync so goes all Out With no Frame Limit) I Noticed CPU VID goes between 1.196V & 1.301V with the VCORE Going between 1.144V & 1.232V with a Max Temp in the Low 80's (81-82*C). Clocks Stayed at 3.5GHz, Therefore Turbo Never Activated.

Sidenote: 1 Change I Need to Get used to Regarding the BIOS is that this is a Visual BIOS, The GA-990FXA-UD3 Had a Classic BIOS Screen.

It's a BAD idea to turn off Thermal Throttling.

You can probably keep upping the multi until you run into heat problems, but, since you are already in the low 80's I'd look at getting something better than the stock cooler.(Hyper 212 is likely best bang for the buck).

Generally speaking, when OCing, up the multi until unstable, then increase Voltage until stable, repeat as desired.

I Have a Hyper 212+, Backplate is still on My Old Mobo It's Just the Hassle of Installing it on my new one. I Would have done it at 1st when I Installed but I Was Curious How the Stock Cooler, That Was Already Installed would do, I Figured even at stock it would perform better than my FX-4100 OCed to 4.7GHz and that appears to be the case! All I Figured I'd do as far as OCing the 2500k is maybe 3.7GHz Max for Full Turbo Clock on all cores at all Times Although I'd likely be happy at 3.5GHz to have it at Stock Clock of the Newer Chips (3.5GHz is Stock Clock of the 4690K & 6600K). I Have it set to 3.5GHz Currently it's just a matter of getting it to Run Cooler. I'm Thinking/Debating that if I have to Replace the Stock Cooler that i'd go with something simple with the push pin mount design so I Won't have to hassle with Removing the Mobo to install a backplate, I'm Thinking something like the Hyper TX3 unless there's something Better that uses the Stock Mounting style of Push Pins. With my Plans for a Mild OC & How Cool Sandy Bridge is apparently

Not bad indeed. I seem to recall on stock coolers people were originally getting 3.8-4.0GhZ without much of a fuss. Once you put nice cooling on it, 4.4GhZ seemed to be a pretty common overclock. Unlike the i7s, though, the Sandy Bridge i5s tended to hit a brick wall before they could touch 5.0GhZ (I say this because I had many friends looking for the "budget 5GhZ" and never achieving it, while my i7 2600K his 5.05GhZ with a Corsair H50 and very little tweaking).

it's just a matter of getting it to Run Cooler at 3.5 with Stock Cooler.

That chip on that 212 EVO would do 4.0 across all 4 threads with NO TURBO BOOST. probably sitting mid 60's when gaming possibly 70-75C when thrashing with benchmarks........leaving 10-15 C safe headroom for OC lol. badass

What are you waiting for? lol, Its on the virge of smoking my I5 3550 with locked multi OC to 4.2ghz......get dat cooler on it, get it to 4.0ghz and be is shock and awe how much we have suffered using AMD chipsets brah! That chip el do 4.5 without even breaking a sweat......all day long for years........ans so it was written. sandy bridge OC. hott damn.

One of many; I don't know which one would be "definitive" …

I'll Likely be Installing the 212+ Tomorrow Unless I Postpone it till Later as I'm Happy with it Stock as it is Currently (For Some reason It appears to revert back to Stock if I Start the Computer without going into the BIOS. If I Go into BIOS What I Have set is still as I Left it, So Basically if I Were to Install The Cooler & OC Then Everytime I Start The Computer I Have to Open the BIOS for the OC to Take Effect. Time & Date is still Good, Not Sure if it's the BIOS Battery or what it could be?)

In Other news, I Visited the Computer Recycling Center I Used to Volunteer at today for the first time in close to a Year or so I Think, When I Was Looking Around & was Eyeing the (Refurbished) Computers they had for sale I Kicked myself a Little(Only a Little) They Had a IBM Thinkcenter With a i5-3570 (Non K) & 4GB RAM for $180, $20 More than what I Paid for my 2500K & ASRock Z68 Extreme 7 Gen 3. They Still Mainly have Older Stuff (Majority of Computers On the Sales Shelf were Core 2 Duos). To Top it Off I Heard from the Head guy there that 3-4 Months or so Ago they had a Computer with a i7-3770K That they Sold for $190! The CPU Alone is Worth like $300 or so! All I Have to say is God Bless Not for Profit Computer Recyclers!

Whoa, that's pretty darn crazy (as in, crazy good). Unfortunately, where I live, there aren't any real computer recyclers (that's the "curse" of living in a upper-middle/upper class area).
The stuff I see left out on the sidewalk for the "garbage guys" to pick up is usually quite outdated (7+ years old), and I'm not a retro guy.
