In this match, my light lance was able to completely take their assault lance away from the main fight with our harassing attacks. But the rest of our team couldnt handle the rest of our opponents. What benefit do I have as a player to play a light/lighter mech and then have to deal with a team that cant put any damage down range???

This is yet another reason why I am slowly getting right of all of my lighter mechs. I doubt I'll get rid of my Cicada but its frustrating to play your role correctly and get nothing for it. I've already sold all of my lights..

Bad teams happen. All the time, to everyone. That doesn't handicap a particular mechclass though.

Yeah, that happens sometimes.

Usually I wait two or three minutes to give my "former team mates" opportunity to drop in their matches, and then I drop myself in the new game.

For some reason hiding and dare I say cowardly behaviour has become more common lately. Was in a match in HPG manifold playing assault mech. Rest of the assault lance stayed behind those walls and they even got some friends joining them so half of our team wasn't in a fight. Naturally we got stomped.

Matches where after first enemy contact half of the team or more go to hide and don't contribute any damage happens so often nowadays that I have learned to recognise it and can tell when match is lost even with just few shots fired.

If you stop shooting at the enemy and go just hide instead of trying to find better firing position, your team will will get surrounded and finished off.
