A few times now I've really wanted to get in on the "old" (wave 1 / wave 2) clan mechs, but the prices are insane. I can buy three Kodiaks for $20 - but the Hellbringer set costs $55?

Are there any plans to normalize these prices?

The entirety of wave one was on sale recently, you should have acted. Also Clan mastery packs are in the works so to answer your question yes they will be somewhat normalized.

No because they are on a different business model. Buying the Hellbringer a la carte is punished because for 90 dollars you get the Hellbringer, Ice Ferret, and Mist Lynx (admittedly yes that is a terrible deal because only the Ice Ferret is somewhat useful). The Kodiak wasn't part of a big pack so its cheaper, but the $20 pack doesn't get you a 30% cbill bonus mech.

Clan Wave 1 mechs were, if I recall, released while PGI was partnered with another company who wasn't exactly fair with the pricing. Why the prices haven't been corrected is questionable - Either some bizarre contracting requires PGI to keep paying them money, or maybe they just don't want to piss the people off who payed these ridiculous prices.

Probably, but I feel uncomfortable saying for sure.

EDIT: There's also the third option - That people are still shelling out that price for the mechs. It seems unlikely, but I've learned that video game players are, on average, probably the absolute dumbest consumers on the planet, with the exception of the anime fan base, and they're all mostly content to suck down whatever developers give them, and attack anyone who tries to point out how much of this crap is crazy.

Seems like they should adjust that, I'm pretty sure the old pricing ways was IGP's idea, and now that they are splitsville with PGI why keep it around?

If they adjusted them, there would be hell to pay. Being a sales and marketing guy myself I wouldn't be upset but I for example spent $55 on a Ala Carte Timber Wolf and then $120 to buy the Wave II pack (most of which sucks unfortunately and I regret the purchase to this day). Alot of people who spent that kind of money would be upset if they were suddenly released at so much lower prices and would be demanding refunds and that that goodies. As I said, I understand that sales happen and prices change but there are so many adult "kiddies" out there on the Internet who would whine about it not being fair, etc, etc, that PGI would catch merry hell for it. Therefore it just isn't worth the effort.

However, another factor when your considering prices is that with the Clan Wave I and II, your pretty much getting the equivalent of the $40 collectors pack minus on standard variant for each mech in the bundle, not the $20 standard pack. Each mech comes with a +30 C-bill, unique geometry, unique paint scheme "S" type variant. So if you really get down to it, the prices are similar with the only major hiccup being that if you happen to want say the Hellbringer, you also have to purchase the Myst Lynx and Ice Ferret.

PGI has never adjusted prices, ever, as far as I know.

Paint, hero mechs, mech packs, MC prices... everything has been unchanged since 2012. The only thing that has changed is how they're selling mech packs (e.g. single mechs with upgrade options instead of the quad packs with a la carte option)

Prices change all the time - new product comes out, old product gets price reduced hoping it would still sell amidst the new stuff. I bought Fallout 4 for $60 - this year it'll be on sale in Steam for $20 (or less) come cyber Monday. That doesn't entitle me to a refund for $40 - I was a sucker for wanting to play it RIGHT NOW instead of waiting for the price to drop. Same can be said of Waves 1, 2 and 3 for Clan Mechs, Wave 1 and 2 resistance Mechs, and IIc's. Packages could easily be normalized to $20 for the basic package for a single chassis. For incentive to spend real money (versus C-Bills on those mechs) keep the (I)nvasion/®esistance/(O)rigin designation on the Primes and the 30% C-Bill boost. After 1 year, do the same for the original $20 packages (just make it 3 mechs, with the (S)pecial tag on the prime variant). It won't cost PGI anything to make those changes, and they might see an occasional $20 here and there from players who just want it now.

The only time you should be entitled to a price match is if you purchased the expensive package and then saw the price drop within a reasonable period of time afterwards.

The two different business models in one game is exactly what I don't understand. $55 for three mechs is too much, but it looks even worse next to a $20 set for a 100-ton mech. And worse still when the same mechs can be bought with cbills. As it is, I'll just grind it out and get the mechs for Cbills, so PGI gets $0.

Invasion, Wave 2 and Wave 3 each had a Prime variant that included the (I) tag - this gave it a 30% C-Bill boost (essentially made it a hero mech). These mechs also had unique geometry compared to the non-(I) variants or the Prime variant you can purchase for C-Bills.

Resistance Wave 1 and 2 also had special ® tags for one of each chassis that did the same thing. The only way to get the C-Bill boosted mech was to spend real money.
