Have I heard such disrespect and trash talking so much over nothing. We all know that every now and then pilots will argue over comms. We also know that there are always those pilots who like to say horrible things to other players. Well this time I was dragged into one of these situations. I usually try to stay out of it no matter how bad I want to say something to shut the person up. But this just usually makes them even more talkative or angry.

I was targeting a Highlander IIC which was about 400 meters away. I had blasted my large pulse lasers at him and I also had 3 sets of C-Streak Srm 6s. I locked on and fired the missiles even though the target was just a little bit out of range because why not right? And I was one of the only ppl left on the team and I still had to kill the last three remaining enemy mechs. So I fired the missiles. And no they did not hit because it was just a little bit out of range. Then all of a sudden here comes this dude.

"Your out of range you f**king moron". I say "yes but it was worth a shot"

Dude: "Shut up you idiot you don't know anything about this game" (Says the dead guy who did 90 dmg in an Assault)

Now I know this is just petty stuff and ppl complain about this ever day on the forums but this guy was the King of douches. I finally said just stop talking. And I killed the last two remaining mechs and a win for our team.

The next few things he says I can not repeat because of the vulgarity of it. But let me tell you..ppl like that need to be slapped into reality. Alot of ppl leave this game due to ppl like him. I have been here for a long time. Hell I think my join date was early 2012 or something like that. And i deal with ppl like him all the time. But this game is supposed to be fun. And yes sometimes the trash talking is fun but only when it's competitive trash talk. It's just one of those things where you gotta mute and move on. Because he is a young teen or young adult sitting in his room at his parents house and trash talks all day. No time for that. This is an amazing game. And no little spoiled rotten teen or hell maybe even a man is gonna ruin it for others. Next time you run across one of these types of ppl just mute them or don't say anything in return. They are not worth your time and they are definitely not worth much in this world.

Stay safe pilots.

Some pointers and minor complaining is fine with me. When someone gets really vicious on coms or chat I report.

In the short time I've been playing I've only had one person that was flat out abusive over comms. I didn't engage him (the rest of the team already gave him a piece of their mind), just reported, muted, and blocked.

I get being upset over a loss and being snarky over it, but in the end it's still a game. I feel sorry for the guys unit, and also the group of people he plays with.

I hear you Nathaniel. This gaming community is better than most, but still can attract some serious trolls. Being the last guy alive, I would of fired my Clanner streaks too, expecting the enemy to be closing range, probably making the 40 metres before the missiles detonated.

I try to ignore the backseat mechwarriors, one troll was giving me hell last night. He was dead, told me I kept turning my back on the enemy and I obviously needed a bigger monitor. His assault did under 100 damage, no kills, two assists. I lived, our team won and I had around 350 damage, two kmdds and eight assists. I guess my monitor was fine after all.

My procedure is thus... in-game block and abuse report, and screep cap the end results page that show all the player names and match scores. Then email moderation, explain the situation, and attach the screen cap. If I ran video recording of matches, I'd attack the video file as well. Let the mod team listen to the guy.

I report people like that for chat or VOIP harassment/abuse every time it happens. I reported a guy just last night because the last guy on our team was a Shadowcat with 2 ERPPCs. He went down slugging, staying out of range as best he could on the enemy and repeatedly firing, pumping out as much damage as he could. In the end though, he pushed his 'mech so hard with override and overuse of MASC that he killed himself. It was not a blatant suicide, it was literally the dude just pushing his 'mech to its breaking point trying to bring down anyone he could with him. Nothing shameful about that, but then some guy on the other team called him a name that I shall not repeat here which, in some contexts can be synonymous with the word "cat". There was no reason for that. I reported that guy.

Well said my friend. I was in a game the other day, haven't logged in for nearly 2 months decided to bust out a few kills in the Kodiak. So..game starts up. I have a look..oh wow....everyone in respectable high end units. I said to myself man tournament must be almost over haven't seen this many unit tags in a good while. I was the only non unit member of my team and the other team had 2 non unit pilots.
As the game unfolds. All the coms break open. Directions. Plans. Attack protocols etc etc you name. You can tell these guys are hi class vets.
Game hits around 5mins we are down by 2 and instantly over coms....
"It's over...."
Mind you our team 10 mechs left. So we got some kills back and the same guy must of been speaking me. Had my 4 lbx10 buckshot kodiak set up with some small lasers as backup. I take out one of their assaults. I push back a few of their heavies into cover. And I saw a commando zip past the rear of our friendly dwf which was clearly being harassed to kingdom come.

I take aim. Boom. Commando dead.

And this same fellow has the balls the belittle me? I was wasting my time shooting at the Commando? Like wtf?
The dwf pilot was greatful.

Pressing on. The dwf and I regroup with our already battered team. Within a matter of seconds of regrouping our last medium and 2 heavies holding the line were destroyed. Dwf went down from an cheetah back stab which didn't take much since the dwf was near rear cored from the Commando.

Just me left. I just do what I normally do if im last. I run and gun as best I can. But never lasts long when you have 6 mechs locked on you.

Died.

"Thats what happens when you bring lbx cannons you scrub..." disconnected.

My reaction. Wow. Some ppl. I'm not the best pilot. But the weapons I load my mechs with i know how to use well. If i was bad at using them and had little to no idea the yea ok good call. But im not stupid. I know the weapons I bring. I know how they work. I know they aren't the best. But I make them work to my style of play.

So yea. Ppl on coms are either great or just trash. I wrote his name down in my naughty book. I had another game with him. I instantly muted him. Still lost the next match but it was much better not being able to hear the BS dripping out of his mouth.

Oh man, this reminds me of one time I was in my Mist Lynx back when Firestarters were the cream of the crop in OPness. I solo killed a Firestarted in a 1v1 fight in my Mist Lynx and the dude called me a derogartory term for a homosexual person. "Mole, you're a [expletive]. A real Grade A [expletive]lord." Sore loser, much?

"This community is better than most"

Well.. maybe.
I've been member of so many forums and games since the late 90. Including heroes of might and magic, halo, civilizations, xcom, fallout and so on. In my experience Civilization forums are the most rational and kind forums, while not having been member at either the minecraft and cod forums (though I have played those franchises)
They have reputation for being the worst bile infested acid pits in gaming history! And just stalking those forums proves it.. Scary beyond belief.

And this one is average at best.
The worst part are elitist, bigotry and arrogance reeks strongly here around even if its a minority or a slumbering majority, who knows?
The best part is the very helpful advices and the occasional players who want to make this community better with rational and open minded approach, even having the ability to sway PGI to do something new and gameplay improving of all things.

i like to fire first and ask questions later. if my crosshair doesnt turn red im going to glance at my range and try to figure out why. stupid is when you fire, nothing happens, and then you fire again. like that guy uselessly blasting his ppc at 30 meters, especially when he has 4 srm6 racks on his mech. thats stupid.

I recently in the past week had someone on voip+chat with the usual "oh this team is dumb" (putting it nicely here) and when the last couple guys won it for us i was like "well look at that, the idiot team won" (also putting it nicely), then he off and says how we didn't deserve it. I didn't hear the rest of it as i just disconnected.

Still remember the pilot's name, but won't post it because name and shame.

Now, i'll admit i get salty sometimes as well, but i never take it beyond a certain point. At the end of the day it's just not worth it.

I think the saltiest I ever openly get with my teams in-game is when we lose on a 12-0 roll or something like that (or even more often when we lost on a 12-2 roll and I was responsible for both kills) I'll sometimes say "I would blame my team for this failure, but that would imply that I had one to begin with." Sometimes I'll also witness my team doing something stupid that I know is gonna cost us the game no matter how many times I tell them not to do it and I'll say over all chat something like "GG, team too scared to move out of the most disadvantageous position on the map." That's about as nasty as I get. Nastiest I get in general is when I manage a kill on a clan streakboat. I usually tell the pilot to die in a fire because I despise clan streakboats.

Why not...?

Unnecessary heat. Unnecessary loss of ammo. Unnecessary time and risk staring at the target to get the lock.

That's why not.

Not that any of the above justifies your being abused.

Mocked, yes. Abused, no ;)

This reminds me of yesterday when there was a streak crow spotting me from over 500m away and repeatedly launching SSRMs at me from that distance on Canyon Network. He sat there and did so long enough for me to open him up and get the KMDD on him with a couple of PPCs.

I shoot streaks way off range all the time, even at the start of a game. I was told that people love to hear "incoming missiles".
