Plus, I found out that I needed to set a button for them and I'm not happy with any of them. Maybe I'll use one of the unused ones on my G13 Gamepad.
So far my problem is remembering in the heat of a fight that I have it.
But this is how I saw them loaded up in the PTS. You did not put them in a consumable slot, you loaded them right into the Coolshot bar.

If you have a scroll mouse you could set forward scroll as first consumable module and reverse scroll for second consumable module, its what i do

I then use the others for zoom etc. I found a button on my G13 Gamepad. I guess you cannot stack coolshot 6's.

You can bind buttons for each of your consumable slots, instead of having a separate one for each thing. This lets me swap between Air and Artillery strikes, for example, without using two different keybinds. You have to pay attention to which consumables go where, but it's much easier to use in-game.

Some people swear by Cool Shots - but they're mostly running 'mechs that are too hot. =) The set of situations where that upgraded 9x9 will save you is far, far smaller than the set of situations where a Strike asset or UAV will swing a match in your team's favor.
Everyone should learn to use them, and it's not wrong to bring them (unless you're in an organized team and you were supposed to bring something else,

I put consumable slot 1 on F and 2 on G i think. they are close enough to use easily, and aren't already bound IIRC.

Your "F" key DID have an original bind. It centers the legs to the torso direction.

Yeah, I did this, bound the slots. Then UAV's are in slot 1 on every mech I own, and whatever else is on slot two (typically a strike). This way, I have consistent controls over all my mechs.
But if someone wants me to bring other consumables for whatever reason, same keybinds work. Per consumable keybinds would be so chaotic.
That said, I basically never use cool shots. A UAV is massively better in any game, and arty/air's ability to move the OpFor around, push them out of cover, blunt a push or do large damage to clustered mechs is simply better.
I wish I could sell all mine.

I agree, which is why i started to try them out on certain mechs.. But the ones i did try, basically i am just able to add another alpha.. (be it the 6 SPL's on my ARC or dual LPL's on my shadow cat and cicada) this is with no upgrades.. I was starting to save GXP now for UAV upgrades, but they at least work with out upgrades.. I am anxious to see how much they improve buy doubling the cooling with one upgrade, and the other adding the extra 20% total. Seams like a fairly good upgrade anyway.
SO far in the last 2 days, i had 2 situations that it would of gotten me the kill.. But i am not used to using them and forgot.. even the single volley would of been enough.

I used to use that, but found i had to move my hand off the move keys, to much.. making them hard to hit.. I remapped my consumables to 1-4 and found it works far better for me.. But like everything with keymaps, do what works best for you.

You know i want to agree with you, but in pugs.. I swear UAV's are useless more often than not.. People don't react to them, don't launch LRM's if they have them.. don't re-position with said data, ect... You know PUG-LIFE.. which is why i started to experiment with coolshots on hot mechs, (and quickly learned how lack luster they are with out upgrades). Now I need to do a ton of GXP saving to unlock um.. Kinda makes me wish they would give us an XP conversion sale.. Spend the 400 MC i just made this event

I have to agree about UAVs. I try and often get shot getting close behind them in a light mech to put up a UAV. I've started asking if anyone has LRMs and I also say when I'm sending up a UAV and it is often a wasted $40K.
However, and this is something I wanted to start a new thread about. I wish more people would use Air Strikes and Artillery Strikes. I watch people play and a lot of them do not even have a consumable loaded.
I decided a few days ago to use both an Airstrike and an Artillery one over a UAV. I also like to know the difference between them. I think an Artillery strike falls in a circle and an Airstrike falls in a line.
I try to hit at least two or three Mechs at a time and I'm getting better at figuring out when to do it so they cannot escape it. But there are reasons to use them besides damage (and assists) . And that is simply, to make an enemy Mech move.
For instance, there is one enemy Mech sniping and holding you and other back. Fire an Airstrike and while he moves, you move. I also use it if someone is shooting at me and I'm in a brawler and I need to get close. Once the smoke hits, the enemy is partly blinded and then will often move quickly away and he loses sight of me. This worked perfectly a day ago when I moved a Mech firing at me and the next time he saw me I was behind him taking off his back armor.
Just the "Smoke" is a plus, to the fact that I wish we HAD smoke consumables. In fact, being ex-Military I'm stunned we do not but then I realize this is a game but if I controlled it, we would have smoke rounds or whatever. I've had people that maybe did not know about Airstrikes tell me that me laying smoke was a great idea.
And I've also used it semi just to tell my teammates this is where they are. I wish these grid squares had grids on them. I often have to say "he is in about between G5 and F5 or so" which is not very precise. But my teammates will sometimes see the smoke if not the explosion.
I blame the lack of Airstrikes etc on people who wrote "guides" on how to play MWO and make C-Bills. They mention trying to only use +30% C-Bills mechs etc but also, to never ever use a UAV or airstrike. Because they say it is not worth the $40K.One thing that makes strikes better is using 2-3 at a time. But if only 3 on your whole team is going to use one, that does not happen. I look at it this way, spend $40K and get a victory, which pays more and pays for it.
Anyway, if someone can tell me how to bind a button to a consumable slot that would be great. I use a mouse button for Airstrikes because of being shot while using them. Since I have to move very quickly, I do not want to take a finger off my WASD buttons. And I'd like to try both Artillery and Airstrikes.

And are my Coolshot 6's worthless? Will they refill? I have 86 free ones so...
