OK major overhaul to the game. But stay with me here. Any modification to a mech takes a set amount of time and cbills in real life to do. for example. I want to replace the Medium laser on me mech with a medium pulse laser. Well not too much of an issue but with the labor and retrofitting required would take about 1 day. but if I were to swap 2 Mediums for 2 pulses it would take 2 days. (in real life time). Now say I want to replace an ac20 with a Gauss rifle. Much bigger project and therefore it would take quite a bit longer. say 4 to 5 days. Now say I was to try and install an AC20 in place of a Machine gun. (Which I think is crazy). That would take a very long time. Modding the mech's structure and actually fitting the piece in place could take upwards of a month. Also changing out structure type, armor type, and engine size would be a fairly large and complicated task. Accordingly taking a long period of time. Now omni mechs would have an easier time of it as they are designed to allow for these changes but by no means instant swaps. As far as modding weapons and mountable misc items, but not structure and such. This might require a reset to a base mech model and then allowing modding to start from the ground up. Also who the heck is paying the techs that actually mod the mechs? So the larger the change, set a proportionately higher Tech fee for the level of the maintenance. This is not some crazy hare brained scheme. Try changing a head light on a car. not hard but still requires a little time. Then try replacing the engine. The labor time and cost are not equal. This would i think to some extent if not clear a lot of meta building would at least slow it down and make it harder for people to run rough shod over the exploitable builds. May not work but seems to be a fairly balanced approach (with imho sized hard points) to alleviating meta craziness.

How is building and fielding effective builds a problem? Why should that be penalized?

Stock mode is a thing your know.

An excellent idea for the new PvE Battletech game. An atrocious one for a PvP only F2P Mechwarrior game.

Just terrible.

This is about as enticing to read as watching paint dry. Try formatting your text.

It would actually make "meta craziness" worse, not better.

The reason is that only the most optimized builds would be worth the time investment, experimental builds would be extinct.

Every mech on the field would be either a stock build that hasn't been invested in yet, or a full on tryhard build locked down forever, and there would be almost no in betweens.

The gap between new players would increase enormously, and the imbalance between new clan and IS players would also increase as players are forced to play the unbelievably bad IS stock builds against the immensely more powerful clan stock builds. I faction warfare the pugstomping would be worse than ever, and in quickplay matches would be decided by how many stock builds players on your had to take.

Those are the cons, apart from the obvious ubercon of waiting days and weeks for doing something in a freaking game, and the pros...eh...what?

Is it so some obscure nerd somewhere can imagine a goofy 80's space opera gone deathmatch shooter is "realistic".

I can't even...

Even in MW4 there wasn't time required to refit your mech, just repair time based on how much damage the mech has (in campaign). But yeah...

Remember when people actually had good ideas?

Sized hard points, because the only the Atlas K should use anything larger than a medium laser. *sigh*

This really is a bad idea. Really the worst. It would basically make everyone not want to experiment or try new things. Just bad.

Good gravy, it already takes a Lemongrab level of Unacceptable time to go from login to actually playing.

"Any modification to a mech takes a set amount of time and cbills in real life to do."

Yeah farm-mech-warrior-ville can burn in terra firma v1. i'm not wasting real time minutes\hours for anything as simple as swapping out one medium laser to small laser in fifteen real time minutes which I can spend 100mc to drop down to five minutes. would you like to pay 300mc to save your mech load out in fifteen minutes or wait 30 minutes?

i'll just boot up the old mech warriors and lucas arts' x-wing series instead.
