Mechwarrior 2 Mercs FOREVER

MW4 is really dumbed down and terrible, but I think MW2 Mercs' story is at least as good as MW3 if not better. The universe is much more diverse and the micromanagement of a Merc corp is fantastic. Not to mention all the IS politics and news articles to read.

There is nothing you can play to prepare for MWO. Play something else and enjoy it or not play something else and wait, what else can you do? I simply do not understand, how can you say play this or play that, this is a brand new game and it will simply blow away any and all previous MechWarrior games!!

Mechwarrior 4 with the MekTek patch is probably the best possible option. Living Legends is IMO an alright shot at the battletech universe but you know why I play Mechwarrior? It's to have my mech fight your mech. Not to have my mech get bombed by your teams aerofighters, not to have my mech boarded by your element suit, and certainly not to drive around in a crappy tank that shoots down crappy aerofighters.
In tabletop and the Clickz based tabletop I think the other aspects of combined arms battletech warfare are great, but this is MECHwarrior, not Battletech.

So fair warning before people waste their money on Crysis to play living legends, half of each team is going to be using non-mechwarrior options to fight you.

I'm genuinely surprised at the number of people recommending MW4 over MWLL!

Sure, MWLL has the "disadvantage" (? not what I'd call it...) of also allowing tanks, etc, but after playing MWLL it's hard to go back to something as old-school as MW4.

Check out this MWLL video of an Atlas lance attacking a base:

Hmm does the MWLL have a campaign mode or is it FPS only like MWO will be?

FPS only? Don't you mean multiplayer only? It is, in fact, multiplayer only, but there's always someone playing.

I highly recommend Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries as this is probably the most similar game to MWO. You can get it for free from MekTek:
http://www.mektek.ne...downloads-r1204

Playing instant action with mechs/builds similar to those already released is not a bad way to practice a bit and the regular campaign is a lot of fun too, of course.

dont listen to this guy the microsoft games are NOTHING like what this will be

The answer depends on what you intend to do and if you plan on spending any money to play something. If you don't mind spending $6 on Crysis Warhead via Steam, then I would recommend MWLL, which is a mod for Warhead. If you're on a tighter budget (or just don't want to spend anymore money), then I would recommend MW4:mercs, which can be downloaded for free here: http://www.mektek.ne...-play-mw4mercs/ . You'll have to do a bit of configuring around in the regedit to get MW4:mercs to work multiplayer, but it's not hard to do. Both of these are very fun titles to play while you wait, and I recommend both/either of them.

Edit: Whoop-Whoop! 1000th post! Community Master! Whoop-whoop! :D

I would recommend playing Assault-Tech1: Battletech. You can download it (just like free Mech4:Mercs) with MTX from MekTek. 'Mechs there have reticle for arm mounted weapons and one for torso mounted, so you can practice something similar to MWO.

I will be playing the all new Mech Mode (Nemexis Labs) in Combat Arms. The graphics and gameplay are excellent on that mode. Spend time fighting off the Nemexis-controlled mechs, and you'll get the chance to mount up in your own instrument of destruction! You'll find 4 different types of mechs, each with their own abilities. Use the mechs to take down the hordes of Nemexis soldiers, and prepare for a much tougher enemy at the end! Beat the match on Hard or Extreme difficulty, and you'll be rewarded with some free robotic headgear! Now I can get some practice in while waiting for Mechwarrior Online.
