With all the rending of clothing and gnashing of teeth over the new Clan assault battlemech, I was just curious (And also bored) what everyone is hoping for out of the next Inner Sphere mech and beyond. Seems like there's several directions they could take, what's your preference?

For the purposes of the thread, lets assume that no new weapons are possible (Because if they were, the Bushwacker wouldn't have so many 'made up' variants).

- Star League/ComGuard Battlemechs. These are mechs that were extinct, or close to it, prior to ComStar cracking open their vaults, or the Wolf's Dragoons re-introducing them. Examples: Champion, Annihilator, Firefly, Thunder Hawk, Mackie

- Omnimech Revolution (Push Timeline/New Options). Introduce Inner Sphere omnimechs. Examples: Sunder, Owens, Strider

-Post-Helm Core/Invasion Battlemechs (Push Timeline). Battlemechs introduced after and during Helm Memory Core and salvaged Clan tech had been fully explored. Will likely include plenty of 'made up' variants. Examples: Fafnir, Penetrator, Hollander, Stiletto, Uziel

-Just Give Us Some God Damn Light Mechs

-Succession Wars Classics (EDIT: From CycKath). Battlemechs from the 'Golden Age' of Battletech. Examples: Valkyrie, Assassin, Hermes II, Assassin, Charger

Or, you know... whatever preferences you guys have I can't think of.

Nope, Classic 3025 'Mechs. They've existed the longest in BattleTech and thus have more fans than many of the designs introduced later, more chance of avoiding divisive "yes its notable/no it isn't" debate around the Supernova.

Oh, the IS teeth gnashing will be epic when the Bane is announced by PGI. Right up there with the KDK-3. The Clan butt-pound train has no brakes.

Honestly I hope they stop with mechs for a bit and focus on maps, game modes, and balance. Right now IS relies WAY too much on quirks to be usefull, I do believe that structure quirks are fine and are needed since not all mechs are created equal. But offensive quirks should be removed so we can have a weapon balance pass. Agility quirks need to be toned down or removed for a better pilot skill tree.

But to answer your question on where to go with new Inner Sphere mechs, nowhere until a true balance pass has come.

Endo steel and Ferro should both have the slot restriction reduced to 10 instead of 14 and should be cheaper to make it different from clans.

Double heat sinks should have their slots reduced to two instead of three but make them get critted more often then clans to make them different.

Medium and small lasers for IS should have their ranges increased and heat reduced since ALL laser mechs have heat gen/range quirks of at least 5-10%, and ER versions should be introduced that reach out to the same range as clans BUT have less optimal range to make them different from clans (also cooler then clans too).

Make IS XL engines not die from losing a side torso but make the penalty at 50% for speed and heat lose, introduce light fusion engines with the penalty the same as clans but only saving 30% for wieght. And make standard engines have increased CT structure and potentially a slight agility bonuses so that they aren't useless after the changes to XL and the introduction of light fusion engines.

This is what I wish would happen to the IS, I'm tired of seeing people chasing quirks or saying a mech is only usefull with quirks.

Maps, game modes, & functional CW.

I don't really care about new mechs, until they're part of a game that doesn't feel like it's all placeholder content. The game's been out of beta for three years now, and it's the same placeholder arena combat that it was in closed beta.

If they get that squared away, then I'm interested in IS omnimechs. By the time they get that squared away, we might be far enough along in the timeline to see them!

"How about no?"

How about stuff that makes us want to play the game long term?

Just saying.

+1, 2 and 3

Balance and content first before more mechs.

I want PGI to create more stuff that can be sold off to HBS for the Battletech game at the moment.

That means;
Wasp/Stinger
Javelin
Scorpion Dervish
Crusader
Thug

Thug and Javelin I would probably even buy mech packs for.

It's not a placeholder. This is the actual game. It's not getting any deeper than this.

...To hell?

New mechs should be ignored but the community isn't mobilized to put that kind of pressure on PGI since they think the game, as shallow as it is is acceptable apparently.

I should have seen this coming.

Just was curious what kind of IS mechs people would want, since most of the conversation on the forums has been about Clan mechs recently.

Fair enough, I guess.

I guess so.

Looks like it's time to trade in my Catapults and Atlases for some Thors.

Or... I suppose that's Summoners now.
