Breaking Out Of A Slump

So, how do you all break yourselves out of that? I've been goofing around with "new" (they're new to me, anyways) mechs and builds, and just trying to do something new. Is this a decent way to break the slump, or might this come around to bite me in the *** later, should they be too silly of an idea, and be a detriment to whatever skill level I possess?
Any suggestions on how you all keep the game fresh and interesting, that I might steal?

This time for some reason the daily challenge convinced me to pay long enough each day to qualify for the daily reward challenge, be it 2 matches or 6 to get the 500 team points.
To get out of a slump, I make an effort NOT to lead the charge, see where things are going, and try to plink away.

I try and do well every match and even on a loss I am very often top of my teams score.
I am over 400 mill now and heading towards 500 mill so if dropships or jumpships are ever added I can buy one.
Looking forward to Mech Con and any new content and feature announcements.
Those are the things keeping me playing along with the excellent game play and this game being constantly upgraded and improved. Hopefully it will be a full featured game some day.

What mechs/payload are you facing? And how are you conducting yourself during the match?

Second, I switch to 'old reliable' builds for a while, and just focus on the basics: staying with team, providing support, taking cover to cool down. I find that when I am not rushing out to do battle, I tend to do better anyway.

Just take a break.
Preferably, play a game that is completely different from MWO. Play X-COM, play Transport Tycoon, play Master of Orion, play Age of Empires, play the Witcher 3, play Antichamber, play something that isn't a FPS, or at least one that in no way resembles MWO.
Sometimes it's fun to play something like NARC Ravens or PPC Spiders or Quad Gauss Dire Wolves or whatever, but ultimately this tends to make me frustrated in the long run. Especially in the solo queue, where teammates will yell at you if you're not running a min-maxed build, preferably a KDK-3.

I walked away from the game for about a month.
It's fun again.
Everyone needs a break every now and then.

- Make a poll on the forums
- Watch a movie
- Play a JRPG
- Let off some steam with Postal 2
- Play APB:R and realize there are worse games out there

Even if you keep dying, you will make many a bigger mech...including occasional Kodiak 3s turn away in confusion/fear from the never ending barrage of shotgun blasts.
It is so much fun you will stop caring about losing; and by not caring, you just might win.

I got my daily check mark on the 500 accumulated and Terra Therma plus a couple grab bags. Time to quit.

I've taken the advice of using mechs and builds that I've not ever really bothered playing. Having a new "way to play" changes the pace and how I view the game. It's weird how something as simple as perspective change makes the game play different.
With BF1 out, and the shotgun being a favorite, I can see a little break in my future.
Regarding mechs, I do try to keep away from Clan. I don't know why. I think I like the underdog kinda freebirth mechs are built for a specific purpose, way of things. That said, the Kodiak is maybe one of my favorite looking mechs.
As a side note, why am I seeing so many LRM/sniper Atlas builds these days? I feel like that's some kind of sin. Am I alone in this digital outrage?

Because every other build they can use is completely outclassed by some other lighter, faster mech now.

Do what you do best. If you are switching mechs looking for a win you are just magnifying the issue. 9 times out of 10 if your little voice says move, you should more, if it says don't go left, don't go left.
Take a break if needed.
Keep your friends close, your enemies in range and cookies in arms reach.
