O.K. I admit...I am still a noob, and still trying to find my niche. I suck at trying to play a light, but I am getting better with mediums (or I feel I am, but have far to go), really trying to make my BRF-2N work. I also like my SHD-2H.

I also understand, when you get down near the end of the game and your team has only a couple of players left, and they have 6, that it may be best to just try to do as much damage as you can.

But hear is what I can't understand. Last night I was on the Terra Therma map, we had one guy kill himself less than 40 secs into the game. O.K. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, not sure what he was driving, but he could have been a light that ran down the lava river.

I was using my GRF-2N, and although I (at the moment) am not a big fan of the map (hard for me to see) I was actually getting better (or lucky) at surviving longer and doing some damage. But we only have 5 kills, to the other Teams 8. So they all start to push towards our base, and I get hammered. So I go into spectator view. This guy I am spectating has a Raven. The opposing team you see coming to him and start hammering him. He fires no shot, does not move, does not turn, and is killed. The same happened to the last two, one which was a light sitting at the base.

Now it wouldn't be so bad, but I also saw the same thing happen on the Canyon Map (I didn't last as long on that one), with two inactive mechs.

I'm confused??? Did they go to the bathroom, or just park their mechs and do something else?

I know what it looks like to me, but I am a noob...... so what do I know.

It would depend on how they were registering (Tab key). If they were AFK, they would have a ping but if they never connected or DC during play they would have no ping and be listed as Disconnected.

Some new players kill themselves accidentally due to not understanding the ghost heat penalties of certain weapon groups; if Nova is among the trial mechs then this is almost certain as you can almost instantly kill yourself by firing them all at once... and that's on a normal map. The additional heat? Pow.

The Raven sounds like a disconnect or AFK; many things can cause this. It is frowned upon but sometimes beyond control.

I should note that being a free to play game, and you being new, it is very likely you're seeing other new players who may have problems playing the game. It is not uncommon for disconnects to occur as game clients crash.
MWO has an exceptionally high minimum spec requirement and people generally want the best graphics. Being a free to play game, many expect it to be kinda crappy graphics with low requirements... and low and behold their computer practically explodes on them.

For a comparison with another game, I got a new video card but only the same amount of RAM I always used. The RAM met the game's minimum requirements, but it wasn't enough for the computer to handle running the game, internet, and my new video card as it was below the specs for my video card's minimum requirements.
The result? Soon as I entered a multiplayer match, I'd fall through the ground and get disconnected, then the game crashes.
Got an upgrade from 4 gigabytes of RAM to 16... and never had the problem again.

It is something that players often hit when playing a new game... realizing their computer can't handle it.

Just write it off, be thankful when the other side has the problem, and if it helps stick close to your teammates and watch their rears. Staying together helps any disadvantaged team over splitting up.

O.K. by DC are you saying Disconnected? And I really don't know what AFK means. But I didn't even know about checking the ping.

DC = disconnected.
AFK = away from keyboard.
For example just a minute ago my newborn woke up and needed feeding and as such I had to leave my game suddenly. It happens.

If you want, I have offered light mech suggestions before. They are hard to learn, and I admit to having had alotta help learning to light pack with a friend. (Note: my favourite tactic, the assassination, is not presented.)

Yes AFK's happen. Only yesterday evening as I had just connected to a game I all of a sudden had to go check on my little girl as she suddenly started crying her eyes out. Bad dream apparently, but when I got back from conforting her and getting her to get back to sleep (not that long, I estimate around 10 minutes?) the game was just returning to the mechlab.

Maybe my Hunchback got killed at spawn or maybe the Reds won through another victory condition (my x2 hadn't disappeared so we certainly hadn't won). Don't really know. Felt bad for not participating but at the same time it won't stop me from walking away from the game again due to similar circumstances, some things are more important than gaming. Posted Image

AFKs and disconnects I can understand. What completely baffles me are when you're spectating and you have a mech on your team with enemies in their view, in range, and no heat, and yet they don't shoot at them. I'll often start telling them to shoot, and sometimes they actually will..

I mean... in some ways this game is complicated, but it's pretty straightforward that you're supposed to shoot at the enemies...

There are also some people playing with horrendous lag, they seem to mostly try to stick with LRM boats, but when they're the last guy it's painful watching them try to shoot at the enemies.
