Is that the replacement for inappropriateXXXX name that you would see in game? How can people not care enough to give themselves a proper name in this day and age?

Do these people still see the name they chose while we see he generic MechWarrior number? That is problematic if I wish to type a message or voip another player in game. Saying "hey number 123474465" doesn't exactly roll off he tongue.

What explains these names?

A. bots

B. alphabet /client mismatch

C. Invalid string character


I am going to assume most people join through the Steam client so if nothing else is that something to join as. You already are anonymous so there is really no reason to further obscure an identity especially if you may wish to play other videogames with people you meet in this game.

What is really going on regarding names?

It's that exactly. A lot of people don't bother using the name change feature though to fix it, or don't know it exists.

It costs MC after the first use.

It's technically not "free" once that first use is used up. I "guess" support might be able to help you people, but this is not exactly "hassle free".

Price of MC cost for name change after the first one is 4500MC... which is approximately $20.

Honestly, I've seen at one guy had to rename himself because apparently his name was "offensive" for some strange reason.

The easy-access "report a bad name" function and other report functions have been used and abused before.

I'm not saying it's fair or right, but sometimes certain things make less sense and yet they happen.

@5152251: How do I address you in game? You see the problem. Political sentiment makes it difficult to communicate in game.

What if there is another numbered player. If I callout "MechWarrior" its not clear to whom I am addressing.

You call people by their names? i always call them by their 'mechs.

@Toha: Everyone runs meta. Most common assault is KDK-3, which one.

Guess I could callout mech and grid assuming it is not too congested.

I call people by name to tell them if they are wandering into a trap, if i see someone shooting them in the back, or (before there was a HUD marker) let them know they were NARC'd.

If people have an alphabet soup name (or numbers soup in this case) I'd probably say "Hey Numbers there's a Shadowcat shooting your asś!"
If there's more than one person on the team that kind of name i'll leave them to figure it out for themselves.

Sorry you got whacked by the snoflakes. Don't worry though they are going to get whats coming to them real soon. Once they understand there is no way to be offended when fighting to survive it will be fun to watch the meltdown. There is a storm coming real soon and it should be obvious to most who look out the window once in a while. When things are so far out of balance it either self destructs or finds a harmonic that destroys everything around it. I think we will see both.
