Kind of a dumb question, but lets say you are participating in an event, like the get 15 matches with an 80 match score, and you're pressed for time.

Do you have to stay in a match after you get killed for it to count? Or can you swap mechs? I'm pretty sure you can swap mechs, but want to confirm, i.e.

Play a round with a Stalker, get 400 damage, get killed. Quit match after death.
Play a round with a King Crab, get 400 damage, get killed. Quit match after death.
Match with Stalker ended during playing with King Crab. Load up Stalker. Repeat cycle.

You don't have to spectate, right? You can just leave after you get killed and it "counts"?

No, if you are dead, you can move on as slowly or swiftly as you like. You will receive all rewards due to you either way.

Spectating though can help view how others play and their weapon setup. Just remember, you will have to select ANOTHER mech as the current one is locked in that drop.

Yes, as I thought. Thank you much for confirming.

I do always spectate if I have time.

The weapon load-out you see isn't always entirely accurate. The hud can get confused at times when spectating.

I thought that you will not get any additional kill assists after you leave a match, or did PGI change this?

No you don't have to stay. You get all that you've been rewarded thus far. But if someone you damaged is about to die, I'd wait til that person is dead.

This way you make sure you get the extra kill assist pay for that particular person... as you haven't yet been awarded it until that happens and you can only be given that award if you are 'there' when it is given. (End match win/loss payout is always awarded so long as you participated in some sort of combat.)

While it doesnt matter much, there is a very rare bug where if you shoot someone, then die simultaneously..

Then leave the game at the same time missiles inbound destroy the mech you previously hit while being destroyed...

You or your group will get a team kill penalty... (Even if you didnt kill or even damage any team mates).

But its rare...

That is quite the intricate bug. Sounds pretty difficult to pull off.

Now this said... I've had team damage penalties where it was unwarranted, it usually occurred with jumping right into a match almost immediately after the previous one ended.

Oh yah, that happens a lot too!

Im not sure why these bugs happen, good thing the penalty timer is pretty light.

If:
* I know I've damaged but not killed a bunch of mechs
* It's a good fight
* There's anyone particularly skilled still alive on my team
* There are only a couple of mechs left

I stay and watch. AFAIK, you only get KMDD awards for mechs that die after you did if you're still watching (that may have changed), so it's worth it for the Cbills if you know you've hammered but not finished a few mechs. And it's always worth watching the end of a close match, or a particularly skilled player to see how they do it.

If
* I derp into a stupidly early death
* I die relatively early thanks to extreme stupidity (whether my own or my teams)
* I know I've not had a good match and there are little-to-no additional rewards on the cards

I might leave once I'm dead. Or I might not -- it depends on how I feel :)

If you stay in the match and don't quit for longer than 2 minutes, you should receive your full rewards. If you reconnect to a match within 2 minutes, you should still get all the rewards. Unfortunately, we are not giving additional rewards to those who quit out early to jump into another match, as this behaviour had, in the past, enabled and often been abused by farm-bots. We hope you understand!

You get the assists. It is easy enough to test if you want to, but it has been verified by the devs on many occasions, and my own testing long ago. Makes sense anyway, as you can't properly determine match scores or tournament scores without counting the assists. People would light the forums on fire if they weren't getting credit for their work unless they stuck around till the end of the match.

This was from well before PSR and match score existed. This is a much more recent answer from PGI, though not direct.

If the match is going fairly well, I like to spectate to cheer on the remaining players and to act as a 2nd set of eyes. I can jump around the mechs and point out target that the players may not see during the heat of battle.

If I get blown away in the first 2~3 minutes of the battle I tend to exit and go on another drop.
