Those quirks only work when the omnipods are in their default variant. If you switch the omnipods, then the quirk bonus is lost. Huntsman must have default 8/8 omnipods for it to retain the quirks. Same with NGyrs.

Wouldn't necessarily say nerfed quirks. It seems more like they're testing a potential new system to roll out across the board. Could be wrong, though it would be the first time.

It goes deeper than that. Currently, omnimechs have no soul compared to battlemechs, as their omnipods can be freely exchanged to make the same exact optimal build on most variants. PGI is trying to diversify omnimechs by incentivizing stock builds through quirks. It started with the Viper, continued with the NGyr and Huntsman, and will likely be the rule of thumb for all future omnimechs.

It may even end up being retro-active on all the Clan Omni Mechs. There have been "hints" of big changes coming to quirks and the skill tree in the November and December patches. I expect one of the changes to be that all weapon quirks will become "8 of 8" on Omni Mechs.

^This. The huntsman is my new favorite mech; it opens cans, has a flashlight, a nail file, cork screw for corkheads, and lots o knives.
But really, it is a lot of fun to play. It runs variety builds the best as it should, but is weak in the energy builds, which is fine as shooting yellow and blue beams is meh.
If and when Bandito gets a hold of this , I'm certain at some point he will run an 8X lrm5 arty build and troll the ever living crap out of folks.
Not that I can entirely agree with the quirkless drop upon pod change, but I can see what it's meant to curb, which I totally agree.
Can't be said of the other omnis with locked quirks(looking at you viper), but the huntsman set pods are good enough that you can have good builds with decent quirks on top of that. Now you can't boat of course, but that's dumb anyways.

Not even close. I can easily outperform my Huntsman with my PHX and Crabs.
The Crab 27SL is much tankier with great Hitboxes and can easily spread damage, it is a much smaller target, has the small movement profile, has agility quirks to make it even more agile, can mount a larger engine making it not only more agile but also fast, has the same jump capability and with the Pulse Laser Range Quirk, narrows the Clan weapon range advantage by a significant margin and with 2 LPL and 3 ML, which fire faster, cooler and with shorter beam durations, can match the raw firepower most Huntsman builds.
The PHX-2 I run, has a massive agility advantage due to a massive amount of agility quirks, again has better better hitboxes, can also mount a larger engine giving it more speed and and even more agility, has better Jump capability, has ECM and in my config of 2 LLs and 3 MLs can near match the Huntsman's firepower when you again consider the quirks plus faster firing, cooler shorter beam duration weapons.
Not only do these mechs stats show them outperforming the Huntsman for me, but I have numerous times now duelled Huntsman's one vs one while piloting these mechs and not once was it even close that the Huntsman beat me.
Seriously, due to the Huntsman's flaws, ie the horrendous CT hitbox and its general lack of agility, the Huntsman is a very average mech that requires a highly skilled player to do well with it. It COULD be great, but not until at the very least, they do something about the weak, easily hit CT.
Edit and Note: This is coming from a Clan Biased player by the way. Just look at my profile location.
