The glowing eyes were cool.

The glowing aiming dot for head shotting the Atlas was not.

The cockpit for an Atlas is in the eye. When they glowed they were MUCH easier to head shot since the glow gave a perfect aiming point ... as long as you could remember which eye held the cockpit. :)

That was the reason it was removed ... it was actually a significant disadvantage to the Atlas to have glowing eyes. Odd how folks seem to forget this and simply reminisce over how cool it looked.

Back in the day, they indeed used to glow and it was cool as heck.
Shame they removed it. They could've at least made it a toggle-able function (like Kodiak's claws or missile doors) and maybe even customizable (different colors for MC)

Yeah, I thought it looked cool back in the day. I also agree that it should have been toggle-able on and off.

As a side note, I brought this up in the "Ask the Devs" section of HBS's Battletech forum, and a dev had mentioned that he was going to bring up adding the glowing eyes to the rest of the team there.

If the glowing eyes aren't going to make a return in MWO, I at least hope it will make a return in Battletech. At least in Battletech, glowing eyes do not effect aim :).

They were cool as hell, but also cause Atlas to get hit with PPCs from across the map on forest colony.

Back in the day of the spooky eye glowing Atlas there wasn't an aweful lot of mechs capable of going toe to toe with the Atlas, especially if the pilot knew how to Atlas.
This made those glowing eyes pretty ominous , cos you knew hurt was on its way.

Hit a atlas because of glowing eye in the head? Urban legend - you only killed a player in CB with Headshots because he was either staring or using a Catapult or awesome and did something predictable.
To hit an Atlas in the eye because you only saw the eye had almost zero consequences because of damage drop or was a lucky shot... Stop repeating nonsense

Its not Russ that was against the colours, it was the guy in charge of making the colours and the cockpit item If i recall correctly. Dennis Deckoning. Or it was him that said no but might have been Russ orders.

I think Cathy was making reference to Russ's long ago statement that a true pink color would not be made available for mech camos because he considered the idea of pink mechs to be "silly".

A Mechwarrior game without silly things in it would be a fairly barren experience.

How about make it so that when you use night vision or heat, the eyes glow to reflect that you're using them.

As the Atlas cockpit is in the left eye, the glowing eye bit made headhunting Atlases second easiest after the old Catapult cockpit headboxes of MWO yesteryear.

Hardly nonsense. In CB I could dual gauss an atlas eye with relative ease across forest colony or River city. The only thing easier to head shot was the Cataput that I was using as a dual gauss platform.

the other thing that was really cool in CB was the laser damage glowing for a few seconds.

What happened to damage glow? I also remember it used to last a few seconds.
And it makes sense not only from a "sim" perspective, but also fits into the whole BattleTech universe well unlike "glowy mech parts cuz theylooknkool"
(I realize MWO is sim-lite but I'm still absolutely nowhere near wanting to go full mechwarrior CoD reetard).

I *do* miss glowing cockpit lights though. Good targets, especially on the darker maps. And again, kinda realistic from a sim persective.

Some the other suggestions like the spotlights on the Warhammer make sense. But these would just be a giant target for people to aim at.

Didn't PGI reduced size of all the Cockpit hitboxes for all mechs? Besides camo and paint nowadays scream "Shoot Me" already, unless they give something like lens flare on the Atlas' eye it won't attract much attention most camo painted mechs already do. At best it will look like a dot with red neon camo paint.

How about a spotlight for every mech? Terra Therma redux is very dark and both NV and Therma is both unusable there.
