Because it's a bear.

The reason that I prefer the invasion mech packs is that the singular mech packs are too expensive.

Can't the Spirit Bear mount like 4 LRM 20s? o.o
EDIT: LRM75 if you use a standard engine. The toughest Kodiak yet!

Somehow, I don't think 4 racks on a 100 ton 'Mech makes for a very satisfying missile boat.

That's too few. As I said in another thread...

On top of it all it was a pretty cheap mechpack considering the deal I got. Absolutely no regrets on the purchase of it, PGI could do a lot of stuff better, but the KDK pack passed my requirements on all accounts.
EDIT: on top of that they went and fixed the hitboxes on the thing so it could brawl well, saving the Spirit Bear from just being the best clan assault LRM boat in the game. Really though, its great as an LRM boat if you did really want an assault mech for LRMs. Its high speed allows it to get into positions like a medium mech, but it has the armor and firepower of a 100 ton monster. On top of that it has a ballistic hardpoint and a couple energy slots to give it some decent punch up close rather than being entirely useless. It can even peek up and fire the LRMs and dodge back with the MASC in some situations with the high mounts and high cockpit. I'd put it leagues above the Warhawk LRM boat or the Highlander IIC.

Leave your T1 mech out of this. Back before anyone had Timbie, I was piloting 6 missile slot A1. I want that back--but upgraded to Assault class, with +30% C-Bill bonus.

Phoenix Hawk would have taken it had they fixed the Special

I'd start with the urbie because it was the only mech where we had to convince PGI we want it and we actually got it which was quite an achievement.
but overall... I mean I bought the phoenix pack before I even realised what I see, just because of the unseens. And then there was the Marauder, *the* marauder so I'd say it was the marauder that got me hyped most.
However, it was the beauty of the catapult that got me into the game. Not the promises, not the trailer or the great ideas back in the day. I saw it and I knew that is my mech.
