Why do I want these?
Because they are awesome.
I want all the mechs. Sure, some will be better than others. But why not include every mech possible? I know this will involve a ridiculous amount of work and time, and I don't expect to have a ton of mechs at launch, but I will eventually like to have every mech available. I like to think people have originality, and would pilot some of these "iconic" mechs that hold special memories to them. It would be fun to encounter several different mechs on the battlefield, not just Jenner/Atlas Jenner/Atlas Jenner/Atlas all the time.
Plus with the hardpoint system, who knows how two "comparable" mechs in terms of firepower/manuevability might have an advantage when customized in the mech lab for certain roles.

I really don't understand why people wonder why some people want certain mechs.
