Just picture what solaris will look like in your mind...cuz thats prolly the only place it'll ever happen.

Good point. I don't think anyone has said Solaris is coming soon. New modes, and skill tree and something about modules and a couple other things, but I don't think Solaris has been mentioned lately.

OP are you saying MWO is getting ready to have solaris?

I don't keep up with the news that much is why I a asking

I seem to remember MechCon having some sort of 1 VS 1 event...which is reminiscent of Solaris
Or just a local ladder league

So is there no torso twisting at all in MWLL or what?

When you're a Whale, you don't need to twist.
It does twist surprisingly well...turning is just a tad sluggish (as with all mechs)

You notice the mauler trying to spread (and successfully)

I admit...I've played some MWLL Solaris Arena gamemode recently...and it's fun
I know, I know, "Respawns have no place in MWO!"

Yeah, it's funny. Respawns have no place, but we're free to lose our mech 10 times every hour without any kind of repercussions. No injured pilots, ala old Mechwarrior / MechCommander games. No repair, no rearm. For some reason, only respawns would break our immersion. Disconnecting and starting a new match is cool. Because reasons.

I say screw it. Bring on respawns. This is not an immersive Mechwarrior experience anyway, to the point where player death has any meaning. FP even has drop decks. Who cares?

What's your expectation of Solaris VII?

My expectations are quite low. Some kind of tiny deathmatch map with FFA deathmatches. Probably 8-16 people in each match, to keep server costs low. No visibible crowd, unlike MW4:Mercs. No commentator, unlike MW4:Mercs. Just deathmatch with a Solaris warhorn and some crowd sound effects.

My hopes are that they'll go and deliver something like what we saw in MW4:Mercs. With George Ledoux.

QP with free for all instead of teams and a leader board. Weight classes.

I expect same maps, perhaps with things like walls or something scattered about for "flavor". Special map for seasonal championships. There will not be an announcer. Maybe special versions of the goodie crates (Solaris Edition Goodie Crates) for match winners. That's about it.

That's what I expect.

I imagine it will be filled with Kodiaks, unless they add tonnage restrictions.

Pure Deathmatch was on its death bed in the late 90's early 2000's on the pc. then console came along and infected the pc gaming world once again with stuff like DM and Matchmaker, simplistic gameplay and minimally viable everything.

I dont see the appeal of solaris outside of Roleplay purpose. For that simple reason it should exist but i can only see it doing harm to mwo because of how bare and basic it is right now.

Battlefield franchise greatly suffered when they added pure TDM and DM.

Remember that they already took away your right to chose which game mode you play. They can very well do the same with both Solaris and CW. Do you want that in the voting system?

Solaris is fine if there is a deeper game beyond. If its one atmosphere of many. That sounded to serious, but its accurate. :)

I won't be surprised if we end up with something like this.

My 2 cents about solaris:

1) skirmish mode and leaderboard. checked.

2) with population so low, I would like players to actively PLAY, instead of spectating.

3) point1+point2= NOPE

I would really like if they make some poor mans solaris with a map of 12 closed circles, not bigger than 500m in diameter and in every circle you find one 1v1. And if you are donewith your own fight, you can watch the other ones either from their cockpit or from a top view.

If you look at the game now, beside that map (wich would be build 1 circle than copypaste) everything is in the game. Spectator mode, static cameras and enough assets to make some quick maps.
And the servers would be full with 24 players (the given reason you need prem time for custom private matches).

Sure, this would be minimum solaris but at least we could have a game mode that plays different from the rest and it could be done without reinventing the wheel.

You could even make maps with only 6 little arenas and play some tag team 2v2 or whatever.

Wait, I though HPG was Solaris? Posted Image

Seriously though.. It will probably be maps like HPG, "spawn points" with entrances to a central arena, some random symmetric walls, and maybe some trenches. Nothing more.

It will work like skirmish, only you will get to shoot everyone else.

Not unlike standard skirmish, just no team..

If PGI wanted it, I'm sure they could easily do it.. just make 2-4 new maps with 12 spawn points, and remove IFF restriciton, also, for easier time, spawn only 12 mechs..

If you want to make it good, create weight class restrictions and a "free for all" mode.

I thought you said TC was boring because it plays like MWO, but you want to add it? That's not really a good job of selling that game mode. Posted Image

??
Sorry if you read again I'm saying the TSA (Team Solaris Arena, basically deathmatch) sucks in mwll.

Solaris isn't the hard part of making this game. But it will be quick matches that should be fun and with variety. Thats what Solaris has always been. This with the spirit of gladiator games and crowds and lights atmosphere. How they balance Solaris with the rest of the game will be interesting.

Solaris will just be pointless circle strafe just like the 'thrilling' you tube clip

My vision of Solaris for MWO?

Solaris will be divided into three different game modes on a rotating schedule. One week will be solo 1v1's, the next week will be 4v4's, the following week will be 16-mech free-for-all, and then it goes back to 1v1's and keeps rotating through the three modes every week.
