Ahh...you know what? I needed a good giggle this morning, and Piranha provides.

DARKDETH Preorder

I'm not buying it for a number of reasons, but I hadda admit - seeing DARKDETH as the name of the Assassin Hero (not 'Darkdeath', but 'DARKDETH'. It will always be DARKDETH to me) was a nice laugh after a very trying weekend.

Edgelords the world over now have their 'Mech. Thanks, Piranha. I'd say "more like this, please", but the joke's really only funny once, I suppose. That and we don't want to confuse the edgelords; it's bad enough trying to think with all that edginess slicing all their thoughts to ribbons, we don't need to make it any harder on them.

The rest of you may now commence your regularly scheduled trashing and demands that Piranha change out DARKDETH for a lore-appropriate hero from the Somerset Strykers or some such. Mostly just felt like throwing that out there.

Funny thing is that DarkDeath is actually a Lore mech from the original TRO 3025.

Piloted by "Dale Sandstorm." Which before people snicker, is actually someone who apparently actually existed in real life as well as a State Supreme court Judge.

The mech is petty much taken out directly from Lore. Even the original TRO 3025 description has the mech painted grey with black stripes.

Heh, which mostly just means the joke goes back to the 80s and FASA. Where, to our thirty-years-later sadness, it probably wasn't a joke. Nevertheless, DARKDETH will remain the edgiest of 'Mechs for the edgiest of lords, whose darkness and deth-ness cannot be contained by ordinary 'Mechs that don't dwell in the darkest of shadows.

Yeah that is how I am feeling. Did some theorycrafting and I can't come up with one build I actually feel is decent or would preform better than the PHX in the same role.

Thus is the price to be paid for 'lore' heroes. Most of them are hot garbage. And of course any that aren't instantly generate a hundred Pay 2 Whine threads.

Oh well. Just makes the "no need for Assassins" verdict easier. Nevertheless, wonder what Bishop's thinking of this right now, given how long he's pushed for them and how generally mediocre most of them look to be. Though, hey - at least the (S) variant is moderately usable this time!

Yeah, barring some groundbreaking quirks, the (S) variant is the only one worth anything, and even then, without quirks, it won't be that great

Presumably there was a typo that has since been fixed?

Only the name, DarkDeath, is from the lore. The build is from PGI, and it is pretty much contrary to the lore.

You know, DarkDeath is a 3025-Mech that was destroyed in 3033. So this huge amount of LosTech (XL, ECM, ES) is totally misplaced. This Mech was actually rebuild from a wasted Assassin in a private last ditch effort to escape the fate of being a Dispossessed. if anything it would have been really low-tech.

Actually I think the ANS-101 and ANS-27 are going to be the best versions. The ANS-101 has the best hard point configuration allowing up to 4 energy and 2 missile while the ANS-27 gives up 1 energy for ECM. The problem is, Missiles and ammo are heavy on a mech of this size and 3-4 energy isn't enough firepower in an of itself. Even it if get massive agility quirks and some good weapon quirks, I am not sure its enough to push it to the ranks of good caliber mech.

On the other hand, if you just like the looks or if it is your favorite mech, I don't think it will be DOA either. 3-4 ML's + some combo of SRMs isn't horrible.

I did a mock up of the ANS-27.

3 x ML
2 x SRM4+Artemis
2 tons of SRM ammo
ECM
300 XL engine
130 kph
6 JJs
38% heat efficiency

On the ANS-101 I would just replace the ECM with another ML and maybe drop 1/2 ton of armor to get an extra DHS.

Both would be decent but probably not great as long as it gets really good agility quirks. I might of even bought the pre-order if I could have gotten the ANS-101, ANS-27 and ANS-26 as the basic package.
