Yes, November 11th.

In Canada we call it "Remembrance Day", in the states it's "Veterans Day".

On the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day, in the 11th month we all should be taking a minute to remember those who died serving their countries over the years.

Maybe as a tiny gesture PGI could whip up a free Remembrance Day Poppy cockpit item for everyone one to wear on their mech each year.

It's a small gesture of respect for those who sacrificed for the rest of us.

So how about it? I doubt you could do it by tomorrow (or could you?), but I know many would appreciate it. Maybe plan it for next year?

Maybe someone who uses the tweeter can forward it to His Russliness. Anyone else like this idea?

Have had a relative serving Canadian interests since before Canada was a country, I like this idea. I know I ware one for my Grandfather whom took part in the beach-landings at Normandy, the Ardent Forrest and many more key battles in Europe.

My Father was on the HMCS Louisburg when she was sunk by torpedo bombers in the Mediterranean in 1943. 38 crew died, and my dad was dragged under as the ship sank. The explosion of the boilers blew him back up to the surface and he survived.

I never knew why my dad would not go swimming when I was younger, but on learning this I think I now know why.

My wives father was in a tank during the battle of the bulge. They had to stay locked up tight one evening as many died around them. He definitely had some bad memories of those days too.

My Grandfather was burred by a German Flamethrower, stole winter coats from the German forces, got bombed by B-17's, shot at by King Tigers and a whole host of other things, as he was a driver for a Bren-gun carrier... I still remember him telling me this:

Me: Granddad, what did you do if a German tank missed you?

Grandfather: I got the F***k out of the vehicle, those guys never missed twice.

Here's a slice of WW2 history that's hanging on my wall: http://imgur.com/gallery/vt79Otq

My grandfather read this to his troops just before the D-Day Landings. Saw this thread and judging by some of the responses, I think some of you might find it interesting.

Might be too close for cockpit item, I can settle for a poppy decal.

No amazing war story in the family, just my grandfather as a boy fleeing China with his parents ahead of Imperial Japan Army's 2nd sino-japan war, before settling here as immigrants.

The #1 thing PGI better not do is any sort of sale for the 11th. Cashing in on remembrance day / veteran's day is soooo much bad karma. They wanna win some favor and goodwill with the community, put together a quick hotfix to patch in a free poppy decal for everyone to quickly slap onto their mechs for tommorow.

I had three great uncles in the canadian army during WW2. I forget which of willie and jack was on the troopship crossing the atlantic when V-E was declared while the other was just finishing basic training, but Gerald served throughout the ETO as a sapper in the royal canadian engineers, and he came back well... the term for it now is PTSD. But I remember my grandmother once saying he wasn't quite right in the head after the war, but she wasn't very politically correct even in regards to her family members, or the neighbors (see told me the mute hermit who lived in a cottage by the river was named "mister deaf and dumb").

Yeah..a decal would work. Didn't think of that.

Is anyone with twitter sending PGI this idea?

Good idea to honor those who served and those who died.

Just FYI though, Veterans Day in the US is for all veterans (including those that died), Memorial Day in the US is for those who died serving their country - we get those confused a lot here. Both Veterans Day and Remembrance Day stem from Armistice Day. Some links:

I'm all for this.

My Grandfather was on my father's side was a photographer in the Army Air Core and took a number of pictures of enemy positions and things of that nature for intel, he also served in Korea doing the same thing. He was never shot down but most definitely was shot at. Some times he would come back and the ground crew were amazed the aircraft was able to fly at all.

My Grandfather and Uncle on my mothers side didn't fight in the war in a typical sense. I am half Serbian. This side of my family were persecuted by the Nazies and Faciest and actually lost several family members to the death camp's. My Grandfathe and Uncle were able to escape through the bottom of a train car and were able to evade capture.
From what I understand from my Great Uncle, my Grandfartheir was a pacifist and nearly got him self and other family members and friends killed because he wouldn't do anything to protect the group. There were several instances were he tried to surrender to the SS, yes, the SS, the same SS deathsquads, because he thought it was better to surrender than fight back and often times insulted, ridiculed and over all demean my Great Uncle because he had to kill Nazies in order to keep everyone safe.
Needless to say, there was great resentment between them when the war was over.
My Great Uncle was and is a hero, if it wasn't for him my idiot of a pacifist Grandfather would have gotten the entire family killed.

Up here in Canada, it's an all in one NOvember 11th Remembrance Day.

Since that's the date many of us share, and PGI is a Canadian Company, I thought that date would be the most appropriate.

Thanks for the info, I forgot that you guys have Memorial Day as well.

All of the WWII Veterans in my family are now deceased but I had the privilege of knowing three of them before they died. My Great Uncle Louis was present at the Battle of the Bulge. He would spend hours staring off silently into space. They said that he never did that before the war, but when he came back from it his mind would just disappear sometimes and he would just stare. My Great Uncle John was in the 101st Airborne and was one of the first in on gliders during the invasion of Normandy. One night he opened up to me and told me a story about how he was in a firefight during the invasion and his squad was using a barn as cover. His friend tried to peek and a German rifle popped his friend's head right in front of him. Great Uncle John was also present at the battle of the bulge, if I recall correctly. I'm told that Uncle John stopped going to church after the war, and when someone asked him why he said "I just don't feel like I belong in the house of the Lord anymore. I killed a German." My Grandfather was also a veteran, but did not see combat, as he spent the war as a firefighter on a US airfield putting out fires on damaged aircraft as they returned from combat. PGI giving away a little remembrance cockpit item or even a decal on the 11th is a great idea.

It's likely way too late to get something done for this.

Aside from the 60 to 90 day jokes, you do have kinda plan this kind of stuff at least a month or so (maybe 2 weeks min) in advance to even have a shot of it being added to the game

Would be a great idea but decal might be easier/quicker to implement.

Yeah sorry. Tried suggesting that one twice in a row and even wrote to our Community Manager and gave them more than a month to jump on it. It fell on deaf ears. Instead we have this cookie cutter bland Nova-vember event...

http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1

I think anything we do would have to be Community lead because they haven't even responded.
