I love you... I sold my CN9 to make bay space for a Crab for the scouting thing and have been lamenting it ever since. Thank you.

Be sure to get it, it's valid until next month and it will seriously help you get started.

Yea, I'm not sure why this is not easier to find for players but I got mine.

Many of us come straight to the forums from the main page, not really even looking at the announcements.

And announcements get buried very quickly.

ahhh there it is, i see it now! But i haven't been on the forums much the last month, but i peaked at the steam discussion page and saw it, so i then checked new player forums and didn't see a thread about it. I figured for all those that are constantly asking what mech to buy first.. a Free mech+ bay can let um put that off a bit while they try something nice! It needs a few mill for upgrades/engine, and maybe tweak the load out, but it's a fine mech. And that +30% boost will help out any new player to boot!

I've been having a reasonable blast with this thing with pretty much the stock loadout. Upgraded to endo and DHS and put a slightly larger STD engine in there, but stuck with the AC10, 2ML and LRM10. Popped the cooldown module for the AC10 in there and laughing forever at the speed at which I can hurl those big fat slugs downrange.
That said, practically one-shotting another of these in an Executioner earlier today reminded me that it can be kind of fragile

Despite the 30% boost and rather cool camouflage, I really do not think anything of this 'Mech, since it is basically a beautified CN9 and that itself has never been a good 'Mech.

Just out of curiousity, how many CN9-A have they given away at this point? I remember getting a champion CN9-A a while ago for an event (after having thoroughly mastered it).

Very generous and fitting of PGI and NCIX to do this. Helps (you) new players getting a kickstart.
More promotions like this until Mechcon and I think it will be great advertisment for any players who are not quite into Battletech/ Mech Warrior at all. And for possible old grizzly fans.
Spread the word, make more gamers like slower paced mech games. Undo the "niche" stamp while still improving the franchise Posted Image

Try it with a 275XL, AC/10 and 2 MPL, it is oddly a very strong and reasonably quick skirmisher.

Sure it's been a good mech.. Just not a great one.. In the right hands it can be lots of fun.

They did give away a champion a few years back, They also gave away the AH, in both the loyalty program, then again a while later as just a normal mech. So i think this would be the 4th centurion total, but only 2 variants.

I do quite like this mech, though I really like all of the Centurions.
I usually run this mech with a max STD engine, 3 ASRM 4 and 2 MPL. You can lose both side torsos, twisting well enough, and remain a factor on the field.

The CN9 was a great mech during Beta and before Clan/Quirks. Mastering it required pilots to learn to use the arms as shields to soak damage.

That's the original champion build, I liked it more than the current AC10+MedLaser champion offered by PGI. However, it is very limited by lack of range and doesn't have the damage output mediums capable of 4xSRM6A or 6 ML have.

For those who are not familar with Centurions, in general the CN9-A and CN9-AL are a bit slow compared to most medium mechs these days, stay close and support your heavies and assaults. If you need more speed the CN9-D and YenLo hero can be built for 100+ kph, but no jump jets and both are rather dependent on the right arm weapon, so protect it!

I wouldn't consider two MPL that effective in the current game environment, I'd rather be pushing this:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...echlab#modified

Being almost 100 kph is a big deal on the Centurion, being able to get to a place to put that AC/10 sledge hammer to do what it does best, and get away is a very nice thing...

Ive had a Centurion A forever, but decided to "dust it off" when the NCIX version came out.

I run this for scouting on cold maps:

Std270
2x Mpl
3x aSrm6

My Griffins still perform better, but for the most part I find it viable, especially if you are on point with torso twisting.

IF I were to run it in QP, then I would probably go for an XL and AC10.

2 AH if you count Loyalty and 2 9A's

If you get all the free centurions, you can combine them into a russel crowe

Whoever said Cents have never been good, that's not very accurate because they were excellent mechs when: Atlas DDC was the scariest mech and when hitboxes were janky. The problem now is that there are mechs walking around with ridiculous firepower and the glitchy old hitboxes don't protect you anymore. Lack of jump jets also hurt it.

When I got the AH, I got comfortable using an XL with the Centurion. The AH benefits a lot because it can carry an AC/20. but you can apply the same philosophy with the A variant. Put the biggest XL you can in it (you should be able to go over 90 kph with speed tweak). Load it up with lots of guns. Hit hard, hit fast, and gtfo.

I found myself during surprisingly well the AH. AC20 plus SRMs meant minimal facetime. Surviving is tough, and I either died or was disarmed alot. But, I'd take out 2-3 larger mechs out in the process, so at least I was contributing to the team.
