Hello, I am new and I like a lot this game. I've ended the tutorial and I've bought a Cicada.
I wish I could build a team made by 2xCicada and 2xCyclops, but it's really a long way.
The question is: better I save my C-bills to buy a Cyclops or better I buy 3x Cicada first?
thx all.

It's always better to level three variants of a single mech initially. Get all three through elite and you'll have them unlocked and you'll have a much better understanding of how the game works and what you like (2 CDA and 2 CP is not a particularly strong deck and you may change your mind).

If I may ask, which CDA did you buy? I've mastered them all and for a new player would suggest 2B, 3M and 2A. The 3F can be fun, too. The X-5 isn't bad, but isn't really the best use of $ you can make. Avoid the 3C, it's a novelty, no more.

3M. Good first choice. IMO, all energy is better than a UAC on that, but that's a style choice mostly.

Terciel nailed it, so i havr nothing more to add in regards to the questions at hand.

But I would like to throw out some usefull tips (that you might already know)

If you havent done it already, lower your in-game mouse sensitivity (the default is set too high- personally i run 0.18 but everyones settings will vary of course)

When you fully Elite three of the same chassis, your basic skill tree gets a two times boost to their efficiency (which you already know I think but...) and because of this, mechs you might think are might actually wake up and turn into powerhouses! So if a mech is doing poorly while skilling up, give it a chance before you sell it!

Actually... Try not sell mechs unless you are absolutely sure you want to get rid of the mech... And need the mechbay!

If you dont like what someone is saying on coms, hold down tab, and click the speakers button on their name line to mute them! Try not to resort to griefing, your not the only one playing the game!

Try to have fun! The game is brutal in the beginning, but it gets much funner once you get your mech stable going!

Welcome to mwo! Hope your enjoy your stay!

We occasionally get -35% sale on mech C-Bill prices. In summer and autumn each weight class was on sale one at a time, and then some sets of other various mechs.

I don't know how often they come but it's been about two months now without such sales. Of course, even on the sale, mechs are fairly expensive so if you want to take advantage of such sales, you need to have the C-Bills ready.

I've bought nearly all my mechs on those sales.

As a long time Cicada pilot I play all variants, including the hero X5, and enjoy them all. However, as you already have the 3M I would recommend the 3F (Cicada with jump jets) and the 2B (medium pulse boat) for your next purchases.

My least played Cicadas are the 2A and 3C - no particular reason, I just prefer the others.

I play the 3F with 2 large pulse lasers, 3 jump jets and the 2B with 5 medium pulse lasers - I can't remember the engines but as
Cicadas rely on speed and mobility for survival, I have fitted the biggest engine I can.

Once these are fully skilled and mastered you will have some super fun, fast and mobile mechs to learn the maps on.

I can't say anything about the Cyclops as I don't have them and suck in assaults!

P.S. I just wanted to add that I leveled my 3M as all energy - 1 ER large laser and 3 mediums iirc - just because it was a lot easier to play than with UAC5. I only started running that one with ballistics once I had other Cicadas to play energy boat and wanted each variant to be different.

The CDA-3M is a great choice, I'm sure anyone would suggest it as one of the three you level up. I liked it with UAC/5 + 4xML, though nowadays I run it with max XL and 4xML. Think true-to-lore overweight Locust.

Apart from that, I'd say all of the Cicadas apart from CDA-3C (which is kind of hard mode) have things going for them. The CDA-2A is lovely with 6xML, 300+ XL engine, and as much DHS as you can cram in. The 3F is HILARIOUS with 8xJJ -- biggest jump of all 'mechs in the game, I believe. The X5 costs real money, and it's debatable whether it's worth it. Personally I love it though with XL-320, 4xML, 2xSRM4.

(I also picked Cicadas as my first 'mechs. Though I started with the CDA-3C ... I decided I could do my own research, and figured that an ERPPC for bad*ss sniping action and mighty quad-MG's for backup is a good way to start this game. Big mistake. Posted Image)

Don't forget to redeem your free NCIX Centurion Variant (the code is in a link contained in the description of the video.)

Actually the code is on the same page you've linked, just CTRL F (on page search) and type Redemption and hit enter, there's the code and a link of where to put it.

Going to the video (which I did watch and enjoy) told me to go to the link in the description, which brought me back to that page, which told me to get the code from the video, which put me back to the video.... and after all the running around just scroll down a bit more on the original page and bam, mech.

The unique NCIX paintjob was a bit disappointing though, it's the PC Gamer paintjob with different colors.

Sadly you won't be able to put it on other variants, but here's what it looks like on the Yen Lo Wang:

I kinda forgot how much I liked it on some mechs. The Awesome especially.
