... all went merc? I'm ignorant on this one.

If there were no one voting what happens?

Do the loyalist lose all their loyalist ranks if they ever go back?

Wouldnt it be nice to be out of your prisons that are one faction with no action?

Theres no real point in staying loyalist right now anyway and you guys might learn a thing or two about the enemy mechs. Now that the role players (aka high councils) are pretty much gone whats keeping you locked into the loyalist life?

Here's the thing:
The people who are still loyalists are loyalists either for lore/role play reasons or because that is where their friends are at. They have no reason to quit their faction, because they can just stay where they are and just quit the mode instead.

These folks aren't/weren't playing the CW mode because its fun or great, or so terribly better than QP, rather they played the CW mode because they wanted to be a part of an immersive experience (which btw PGI said they would get). As such, even if all the remaining loyalists went merc overnight, the game play in FW would not change because those newly minted mercs would likely just be in the QP queue rather than playing CW. So the current merc population is effectively the only population that counts for CW/FP/FW purposes.

Heaven forbid anyone should make a commitment to something and then stand by that commitment. What a totally insane concept.

I have roughly 700,000 loyalty point.
25 % desertion penalty means I'd lose 175,000 loyalty points.
Roughly equivalent to 10 levels in a new faction.

Why would I give that up for mercs version of "Faction" Warfare

Breaking the oath of Loyalty to your Faction will mark you as a Deserter for a period of 7 days. Once you make the decision to desert your Faction it cannot be reversed.

During the Desertion Phase you:

• Will remain under the banner of your Faction until the end of the Desertion Phase.
• Will not be eligible for participating in War Planning.
• Will lose 25% of the Loyalty Points you have accumulated with the Faction you are deserting.
• Will not receive any Loyalty Points from Missions for your Faction.
• Will receive a 25% reduction to C-Bill earnings from Missions for your Faction.

If you decide to pledge Loyalty to that Faction again in the future, you will start your Rank progression from where you left off after the 25% LP reduction.

Its about getting games, almost all day you can find one and switch to that faction on the fly. The loyalist are doing nothing but being unhappy when theres no reason that I know of for staying loyalist right now or potentially at all in the future.

You can either be a loyalist or have good and quick matches, choice is up to you

I don't find that to be true, Count.

But even if it were, I'll still choose the Lyran Commonwealth.

Or you just play quickplay. Try it. Its like CW but without gens and gates, but with faster matches instead of respawn.

Alas, at this point one mode "matters" no more than the other. To each his/her own.

There are currently 4 factions attacking Kurita.

There is a faction warfare event.

Can't get a drop as a merc contracted to Kurita because of the loyalist population still sucks.

I may be a bloody fool for taking the loyalty career path, but i'd be a bigger fool for breaking contract.

25% desertion penalty sound a "bit" too punishing considering the actual state of FW.

BTW i really enjoy Scouting, i have a ton of fun with my lance and i would really hope it will be more crowded in the future.

I don't want to play FP at all, because it's boring. Switching to Merc does not solve this. So I stick with my unit at rank 20.

@FallenAce: I am suprised that you are not rank 20 by now ^^

these penalties really need to go. it pretty much prevents players from moving around as population demands. or at least have a free trade down rule. you can move to a faction with a lesser population for free and without penalty, the penalties only apply if you join the winning side.

also the rewards for contracting with an inferior side are incredibly weak, its barely noticeable. how do you expect to balance the factions if the incentive doesn't seem to make a dent in the grind.

Spent time wandering the innersphere before MechregSurn showed me the way of House Kurita. Like most others, my FW playtime severely declined with the crapfest/penalties of phase 3. If i spent as much time the last 6 months since FW 3 dropped as i did the 6 months prior, I would be rank 20.

If all loyalists would switch to mercs you would have more inactive players in the merc playerbase. So what's the deal?
Does having the same amount of inactive players change anything for cw/fw/fp?? I don't think so.

The more interesting question is. What would happen if all the mercs would become loyalist and fight for their respective faction? Would it change anything? I don't think so.

For me cw/fw/fp was fun because i was dropping with quite a bunch of nice people from different unit all over the world (NS, SRMX, 9th, 11th, 36th, COMA ....). Some of those guys quit for the same reasons i did.
I have player 200 - 300 scouting missions and something like 800 - 1000 invasion matches, but after reaching rank20 for HK during phase3 I lost all interest. Why?

Scouting in a 4 man against PUGs was boring as hell. It even felt worse than playing invastion as a 12 man group against PUGs. There were some nice 4v4 premade drops, but most of the time we rolled the other teams. Humiliating the enemy made me feeling bad.

And I don't want to feel bad during my spare time.

Already spent something like 1.800.000.000 C-Bills on Modules. Does not make happy.

Edit: Typo - C-Bill amount was 1.800.000 before
