Well I wanted W.W.2 bomber nose art, for decals, and we got Emoji's the size of Nebraska, pendents, and random nonsense, so that the 'mature' members of the community, could put 'members' on their mechs..

So there isn't much hope for sensible lore correct items other than mechs and the bleedin obvious..like faction badges..

Mr. Winter,

That there is a set up that I am trying really hard to resist...

Doing the obvious. PGI.

Triggering!

Gahhhh!

Hah, I know, I almost went into a huge rant as just a digression. PGI hates doing the obvious, it's been a consistent thing throughout MWO's history. Looking at how other popular F2P games are doing things, for example. Or looking at how other FPS games are designing maps and game modes.

I swear to God, Paul probably has 5 alternative designs for the wheel on his desk. An octagonal wheel, an elliptical one, etc.

WW2 style bomber nose art has been some of the most requested decals ever since UI 1.0 had a decal tab. Along with obvious things such as card symbols (diamonds, hearts, clubs, spades), etc.

Ignoring the obvious side-stepping the logical is an earmark of a person who believes themselves to be the smartest person in the room.

This is why we wind up with crap only the minority want... and that's even debateable.

PGI and it's principle representatives need a heaping slice of humble pie and a remedial course in "listening" to their contributing audience.

If the smartest person in the room seriously came up with a plate of strawberry waffles as a cockpit item over...well....anything else...I think it begins to come clear why CW is in the f...ed up condition that it is in. Now excuse me, I need to "equip" those waffles, as well as a large sundae I somehow acquired, because at least then I can pretend my mechwarrior has these things because he needs a snack. That, sadly, is the closest we get to anything resembling immersion in this game. Think about that for a moment.

No, that's the fully completed but never to be released Flea model. Lore is what they use to prop up the break room table's legs so it wont wobble.

Hmm. And here I thought it came on a roll with a cardboard tubed center. Guess I'm mistaken once again.

I want immersion. Battletech is a franchise with a rich lore which PGI can and should use when designing cockpit items. What about the Sun Hou-Tzu pendant Kai gave Victor as an hanging item? What about the Word of Blake (the book) as standing item? What about a Northwind Highlanders Warhorn playing bagpipes? etc. There are many, many good options just waiting to be implemented.

Give me a Bagpipe Warhorn and I will give you money. hehe

Pgi really could get ideas for tons of cockpit items, warhorns & decals just by looking at the most famous units, both merc and faction based.

Maybe if we keep pushing we might see some.

You don't seem to understand that the demographic of predominantly male 30-50 year old Battletech / Mechwarrior veterans are mostly interested in decorating their cockpits with:
  • Ice cream
  • Pancakes
  • Cupcakes
  • Lavalamps
  • Plush monkeys
  • Teddybears
  • Scented candles
Also, we tend to prefer decals in the shape of astrological symbols, chemical symbols (especially the symbols for aluminium!!) and 15 different traditional blade weapons from South-East Asia (including the tabas sword, the parang machete and the moro dagger, of course).

It's called marketing research.

Being 51 clearly I fall into the category that just had to have a teddy bear, for those moments I'm alone trying to hold the line, in need of a cuddle because the other eleven just squirrelled a spider.

the cake is for those games i deserve a reward

I made a thread to discuss famous units. Perhaps we could nail some down for Pgi to add.

I have like zero of them and I play this game a great deal more than the average MWO player, I'm sure. It may simply be a weird coincidence of what events I haven't participated in.

But restricting one of the few lore-based cockpit items to specific events, while you can buy strawberry waffles all year round, it sort of underlines the thing we're talking about. There should be better access lore-based cockpit items. More items to choose from and easier to get. I can buy strawberry waffle cockpit items any day of the year, but I have to wait for the next special event to get a Kerensky hologram? Makes no sense.

Well, technically, you can get it in this event, no need to wait.

I hear what you're saying, I was just pointing out that this one doesn't feel scarce to me. I had three unequipped yesterday, so they've been out there.

Am I reading the event challenge wrong or do I need to play every day for 12 days in order to qualify?

And I get that they don't feel scarce to people who have won them in challenges. But that's a dumb way of distributing one of the most important (to my mind) cockpit items in the game. If they wanted to make it exclusive, there should at least be more non-exclusive lore-based items available for purchase.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people decorate their mechs.

What if I told you that most people just decorated their mechs with whatever junk they got from events?

Yep. I have managed to get some odd "lore" based CP items in the last two years playing only intermittently (and NEVER in clan mech) in the events. Two Kerensky holograms, clan dagger star warhorn, a couple of Jade falcon DNA, etc. I am sure there are more various gimcracks but I know I have seen those in my inventory and wondered: "where did that come from?" Sounds like Tristan has just been unlucky. I'd give him all of my clan stuff...and the strawberry waffles...if I could. :)

Another example of PGI not understanding its market.

So PGI try this:
Buy an old copy of "Mechwarrior the BattleTech Role Playing Game"...(the name ought to be suspiciously familiar, no?)
Open book.
On a weekly or monthly basis replace the dartboard of balance with random pages from this book.
Wherever darts land use that as inspiration for content...be it cockpit items, CW content, events or event rewards.

I know it's crazy...the idea of using the source material associated with those licenses you pay so much for to inspire actual game content, but give it a try. Your customers of "Mechwarior Online A BattleTech Game" might just be interested in that silly stuff.

That would make sense.
....and therefore PGI will never do it.

They want us to pay for the stuff they make up, after all.

Ice cream in your cockpit... where it's known to get between 150 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit inside the cockpit alone when close to overheating. Makes so much sense.

That's why the fan cockpit item makes so much sense, right?

I guess we could call that "lore based"?
