I am a huge Mechwarrior fan. Note that I said "Mechwarrior" not Battletech. I never did care for the original board game. Too complicated, too long and drawn out. I simply could never get too excited about moving card stock figures around a hex map and lots of mathematics.

Then I bought and read a then new novel-Decision at Thunder Rift. Ever since that first Gray Death Legion book I have been a huge fan of the universe. I now own just about every Battletech/Mechwarrior novel ever produced including some rare editions. I have played and stiil do play all the Mechwarrior video simulation games religiously. I write fan faction based on the Universe. (When Mechwarrior 4 was launched with a Fan Fiction Contest I submitted one of three winning entries, winning a Dev Team signed copy of the game I treasure and a T-shirt I still wear.) I have played often in Mechwarrior RPG groups (Often subbing LAN based Mech 3 or 4 video Combat for the pen and paper battles) and had incredible amounts of fun doing so.

I am also a huge fan of MMOs, having played Everquest, WoW, Earth and Beyond, EVE Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard, Lord of The RIngs Online, Rift, Star Trek Online, Age of Conan and more.

So as a fan of both the Mechwarrior/Battletech Universe in particular and MMO games as a genre I have one particular request:

Please make this game more than simply a PVP conquer the map tactical military sim.

Give us a Good Story, one our characters can find a place in. Give us NPCs with depth we can interact with. Give us intrigue, gamesmanship and danger as well as Mechs and weapons and maps to move around on. I would even suggest at some point giving players a way to add content to the game themselves though that is a topic worhty of its own post.

In short and once again please, give us total universal immersion, the ability for a hour or two to forget our own universe and believe we have stepped into the Mech verse for a while.

Also Please remember. Whether the plot is for a movie, TV series, Novels or video game,

It all begins with a good story.

Thanks for your time and your hard work.

The story is extremely important, and I believe they have thought of this, thus the tweets from ISN. Hopefully they will give us a chance to play our favorite battles and such, with NPCs that are our beloved characters.

Also even if I have to pay for the oppotunity, let me be the Clan Smoke Jaguar warrior I have always been, I cannot fight against them, in MW3 I died so many times in the single player just because I wanted the Jags to win. In multi well JAGUARS FOREVER!!!

What I would love story wise is player event battle that results in some sort of story fiction being published on the outcome, like a news cast or historical retrospect.

Example is Legend of the Five Rings CCG. The winners of their tournaments get to choose what happens in certain story elements, ie what faction is the most triumphant, who get the worst end of the stick, introduction of a special character based on a card in their deck. etc But every tournament gets a piece of fiction written that's published on their website for those that want to see the story advance but can't make the event.

It's something that's cheap to implement, furthers the story line, and has deep player involvement. EVERY player would love to see their in game action result in something that they can point to and say "My merc corp did the best in this event and we were able to say X happened".

Obviously, the players don't write the full story, just they get choose from a number of options given by the creators. This gives the creators ultimate control and are never blindsided story, or game planning wise.
