The Dragon and Quickdraw with an engine of XL360 or above already do this. They aren't exactly good mechs, but they can fit the bill for speed.

Really though, there are diminishing returns for going that fast (i.e. less weight for gunz). Once you get above 90 then you're already good to go for the most part. You only need to go faster if you want a bigger engine to fit more DHS (boating medium sized lasers or something).

There's a difference between being bale to do it with existing mechs and having future mechs that are *designed* to do it.

It's not strictly a heavy mech, but you all seem to be underestimating the XL390 Centurion.

In re all the comments above about the Dragon, given what a big deal PGI and Russ specifically made about the Dragon's remodel as part of the overall rescale back in June, I can't imagine the Dragon is likely to get another remodel anytime soon...like years. That ship has sailed, and frankly it sunk. The Dragon is disproportionately wide and with most builds requiring its main guns to be on opposite sides of the mech it will never be a significant fast mech choice, even if they did give it a grand dragon variant load out.

As to to the other ultra fast heavies. Yes the Quickies with XL 350s and things like 3LPLs or combos of missiles (4g with Asrm4, Asrm6 and 4ML or the H with 4ML and 3SRM4), can be fast and pretty hard hitting at least at medium and short range. There is also the big engine Black Knight which can get up near 90 (If I recall correctly) as well as a few other mechs that have one off large engine variants (doesn't one of the Marauders let you drop a 350 in it?). I know it is a hero but don't discount the Jester either.

Linebackers seem to lack firepower. The few ive seen, well, 2, both pack very light on the firepower, usually just a pair of CERPPC. My Warhawk tore one up just awhile ago, 4 CERPPC ripped it iup pretty well.

Actually Linebacker with 2 CERPPCs is a better sniper than a Warhawk, due to it being 50% faster and having higher mounts it can peek way better, plus it also has 20% projectile speed boost and generates less heat due to quirks.

All in all it's easier to rack the same numbers a Warhawk does with a Linebacker, the only downside in comparison is that in a brawl a Warhawk would of course fair better, but it's 20 tons heavier, that is to be expected.

Cavalry Mechs are best done with ClanTech due to C-XL.

However, I am a fan of IS cavalry Mechs nonetheless. The Lancelot would be nice, especially the one variant with JJ. Its big brother, the Dragoon, also comes with a variant having a high engine cap and a boatload of energy hardpoints, plus the ability to mount an AC/20 in the arm. (And it is a very good Mech overall, but it is extinct and PGI never did a fully extinct chassis before).

My personal favourite is the Excalibur. It would depend on good quirks though and its variants are quite boring.

I totally agree with u.

The dragoon would make a good mech especially with its high jäger mech type mounts

And I think the exterminator would be a good addition as well. However, it would be too weak a mech as it does not benefit from clan xl, endo, ff and lightweight clan weapons.

The linebacker would probably remain a clan unique, just like twin toting AC20 IS mechs

What I would like to see are more unique mechs like

Dakka missile crazy mechs like Kraken
Totem mechs like Mandrill and Grizzly
Twin Gauss in Arms with Jump Jets like Pillager, Gunslinger

No point making mechs which can be "configured" from existing chassis

Fast IS heavies? Well, there's the Dragon... And then there's one of the 3055 TRO mechs I've always had a soft spot for, also a Draconis Combine design just like the Dragon:

You know, I would buy the Exterminator for nostalgia alone. However it is true that it would not be very good - at least not without the Null Signature System.

But then, the NSS could be easily implemented: it is only crits. Like the B-2000 it would not be a new piece of equipment, so we would not see hundreds of Mechs with it. Working like a stronger ECM without its negative effects would make this Mech totally worth it.

This means you could sneak up to anyone as close as you wish and blast unarmoured backs with far more firepower than the usual light backstabbers.

Definitely a good cavalry Mech. The only problem I see, besides the lack of variants, is the focus on UAC/5s. Facetime is limited when you pilot a cavalry Mech. You want to shoot and be gone. Sure, you can switch the armament, but I'd hate to waste good UAC-quirks (which the Mech probably would get).

You know, I was fiddling around with my first C-UAC mech this week, and realized that the solution to this whole autocannon debacle is to buff LB-X and AC rate of fire to increase DPS, and then nerf UAC rate of fire while increasing damage and jam rates. They should be the 'cavalry' autocannon, where you zoom in, pump and pray, and then scoot off to try an unjam the thing for another pass.

...Off topic, sorry.
