LCT-3S has the absolute highest DPS out of all the Locusts.

4 SRM2s that fire off like machine guns, it's damage is pretty crazy.

The love for the 1E I don't really understand, the 3M has 25% cooldown on it's 5 energy hardpoints and puts out a lot more overall firepower through fewer lasers (which means less wasted tonnage).

The 1E's strongest role is MedLas poke, but that was severely nerfed when they removed its duration and range quirks, so now it's a toss-up between the 3M and 1E in pretty much any scenario.

Regarding burst: Sortof. The 1E has higher alpha, but with the CD bonus on the 3M it actually ends up with stronger burst, shooting four times in about the time the 1E can fire three times.

"Burst", meaning in a single volley. The Alpha strike is pretty much the definition of a burst. What you are talking about is DoT/DPS.

I think of "burst" as somewhere between "alpha" and "sustained DPS." <shrug> That's the strength of the 3M. It can often shoot twice before being noticed.

Nope. Burst damage is damage over a period of time, for example 10 seconds. Meaning highest possible dmg over that time. Alpha strike is simply alpha dmg. DPS is literally damage per second and has nothing to do with burst. DoT is a type of damage dealing not a measure, for example lasers. Offline mechlab LSML also uses these definitions.

On subject of Locusts, it's a close call between 1E and 3M. For example on MRBC drop 1 we use Locust 3M because of the higher BURST damage and -5 laser duration quirk that makes a small difference when dealing with fast moving light mechs. In the end both are very good and among best lights in the game right now (that tells something about the state of light mechs lol...)

The Locusts is not a particularly forgiving mech to pilot, one mistake and you're done. I usually describe it as a rocket-powered bicycle: fun little ride, but easy to crash and burn.

Yes I know, I tried the trial Locust and my admiration for Locust pilots sky rocketed... But right now I am having fun with Artic Cheeta and I'd like to try a more "extreme" light :)
