Anyone else on AT&T in the US notice their pings double lately? Mine when from the 50-60s to the 130s. Did a traceroute, and noticed it's routing me through Europe. From Texas to Europe and then to Canada!

No wonder my pings doubled.

Anyone else experiencing this?

assassinate your local AT&T executive. It's the 21st century.

Don't blame AT&T quite yet, PGI's Euro server is in France. Its probably some form of load balancing.

I just used the AT&T support chat feature, and that basically amounted to nothing but moaning about it. I know it's not really the rep's fault, they're probably some young teen or early twenty something in India just trying to make their rent and have some money left over to party on the weekend. However, it was nothing but an exercise in frustration. Pointing out that the issue was not with my modem or home network, but that somewhere between hop 7 and 12 my packets between Austin, Texas and Montreal Canada were getting routed through Europe was completely lost on them and was only met with requests to reboot my modem.

It was like going to an automotive service center and saying that cylinder number 4 isn't firing and being asked if you've checked you're coolant level.

The tech said he forwarded the information on to the networking team, but I sincerely doubt it. I've got the feeling he was just playing a few more cards in freecell while he made me wait.

Looks like it's time to switch HPG providers. We offer great discounts over the wayward heretics. All it costs is 20% of your GDP and knowledge of your most intimate secrets.

Pings now up in the 150s, and still routed through France.

Turned on my VPN and selected their NYC outbound node - 57ms ping. Guess I've got a work around.

Just remember - AT&T is just ComStar without guns. You can't trust them.

Rural areas tend to get weirder stuff. AKA I live in Oregon, but have been routed through england and back to the US. The Aussies who play with west coast players can have ungodly different pings with the major city folks coming out ahead.

wish I could help more

Austin isn't a rural area. It's the 11th largest city, by population, in the US. It's also a Google Fiber city, so Time Warner Cable and AT&T were tripping over themselves to offer high speed broadband at a competitive price when Google announced they were setting up shop. Three years later, Google has barely moved out of a small enclave in the southeast side of the city and scattered apartment, schools, and public builds throughout the city. If they were in my area, I'd switch to Google in a heartbeat. However, it did make AT&T offer Gigabit speeds in my area. I get a reliable 850mb down, and 700-800mb up. Pings have been good to just about everywhere, until around Thanksgiving, when they hit 130ms for MWO.

I've had a VPN for several years now, for, uh..., various reasons. Just tested different outbounds on it. I can get pings in the 40s from their Texas outbound, which I believe is in Dallas. However, it spikes up into the 90s and isn't very steady. Their Montreal outbound is giving me pings in the high 60s. The NYC outbound is giving me a solid 55-57ms ping to the servers. It sucks having to load up the VPN before playing, but it will work until AT&T gets their act together.

Yup then it is At&t sorry to hear that. In the hope that maybe AT&T may want the info send it to them. It may be a bad "whatevs" they do not know about, but I would not hold your breath. Sad thing is I recently got a drop in ping from 115 to 80 and the lag in the laser no longer sync with my uacs and I take more damage, I mean the game plays like it should.

I have the same issue. This actually happened before a couple months back. I found a reference on I think the Google forum, that someone finally got past first line tech support, and to a real engineer, and explained the problem. Shortly after that post, routing stopped going through the EU. I can't say for sure that one led to the other. Regardless, I agree that this is not a first line tech support question,

The Sub-Faction 'Word of Blake' ruins everything, Dervishx5. Gotta stick with good ol' Pre-Jihad factions.
