VOIP wildly unused? Every FP drop I've ever been in, if there are PUGs filling spots (1-7 spots) - VOIP is used every single time.

If a player is new, bringing unoptimised builds and doesn't really know the maps (like, you know, all new players) they are generally going to do 300-600dmg VOIP or no VOIP. That has absolutely zero bearing on dmg numbers because GOOD/EXPERIENCED players will do the bulk of the work.

Stop spouting absolute rubbish already.

I'm in a large unit, but, it's largely inactive... Because FP is, well, poo Posted Image

That said I'm not unrealistic as to the issues with the game and what big units can cause issues wise... But the issues they create pale in comparison to ALL the other FP problems and fact is, without the big units, where is the population at now? They serve a purpose.

So, it used all the time in your CW drops but your Unit is inactive in FW drops?

Funny that....

And in case you missed it, CW is designed PRIMARILY for Unit and Groups. Like saying QP sucks becuase of solo players, it's who the queue was designed for.

Yes, Units are the problem in the Unit queue.

Thats not what im saying, im saying when solos have a legite issue, unit people come and tell em that the only solution is give up or join a unit, and their rediculously ignorant for not seeing it that way. Fw isnt only for units, if it was thered be a requirement to join a match. You unit f*cks need to get off your high mountain. If this game is run only for units itll never grow.

That was a nice, try. But...

I drop with anywhere up to 20 different units depending on what faction my unit lands in.
I TS hop, find a bunch if people, get into the same channel and start playing while using TS.

If I'm solo dropping and I find there is a group, I'll ask for their TS and jump over.

I'm not sure where the funny side is there, it's just logical as I see it. Maybe you have a different sense of humour to me.

Can confirm, Ash is a TS door knob, he will give anyone a turn ;p

Can also confirm 1800+ damage games in trial mechs.

My original idea was in the spirit of easing that process, and its what im saying would help make the game better, and itll help new solo players reach the level were their a force to be feared in game when grouped with others who do know what their doing. It would drastically increase the amount of good fights. I cant genuinely think of a good reason units wouldnt like it, other than that their scared organized pugs will beat them.

Most units I drop with will happily tell everyone the TS details, let people join the group for the next game etc etc.
You don't have to have a 1800dmg game in your trial mechs, just follow the plan and most units are more than thankful

Ya i saw it already. Honostly, i think pgi's heart is in the right place, but they need time, to do stuff cause theyre small. They arent a huge game maker like bungie or blizzard. Thats why im around still., though honostly, im more giving them the benefit of the doubt 'cause i love BT, and realistically, this is mechwarriors final try at staying relevent if it fails. If this game tanks, no pro developer will ever go after it again. Im aware my trust might be misplaced, but the other option is 100% bad, so ill still keep faith until i see the servers go offline. Doesnt mean ill keep playin FW, only mechcon will determine that, but ill be around regardless.

While i agree that this might be the last try at staying relevant for pgi, i disagree that no one will pick it up. The community and its players arent poor and are very willing to pay for a good product. Honestly id be suprised if they dont sell it at some point. Im just hoping it goes to a proper developer who can make the end game something closer to what everyone wants.

Found it odd that you said you use it all the time in CW but your Unit does not drop in CW, just didnt add up. Not until you clarified, I mean no offence by my comment.

Now that it has been made clear, you are the player CW needs and wants ASH. Your a team-member, team player in Group, Unit or solo drop in CW. You know that communication and teamwork are key to victory.

You know the solution to group play and CW; be PART of the team.

None taken, trust me :)

Oh I try where I can to get things going, believe me. I know what needs to happen. The other part of that is PGI actually needs to listen to players like me, and they don't. So it'll never really reach a solution stage.

I only play PUGs because I don't have the time to commit to a team(I have a 3 year old, wife, and job, so I mostly only get to play when they're sleeping). I have teamspeak, but gave up on it because it's a pain waiting on 2 different programs to MAYBE find a team. So I try to just use "call to arms" notifications, but today I waited 30minutes on one then gave up on it, at which point a 3 minute penalty before anymore "call to arms" notifications wasn't a threat but a relief because each time I use one it just waste what game time I have. This time I checked the forum for help and most of what I'm seeing is arrogant nonsense from people in established teams. Well you know what? When you're just a couple, or even just one player short of your match you aren't getting the pugs you need because we can't count on the call to arms system, or the other set ups. I'm really looking forward to the single player version in 2018, and have busted out my old laptop with MW4 on it. If you have tips on how to better use the "call to arms" notifications please to reply to this, but if you just wanna circle jerk with the boys in your bubble us PUG players don't wanna play like that anyways.

I used too have your problem. The easiest solution is to form a one man merc unit, and take contracts were you know the games are. Clans seem more unit friendly in their ques, and by that i mean they have more 12 mans goin, so a solo player will get jumped in que a lot more than inner sphere. Is wise i reccommend kurita or rasalhague, they seem the most active in my opinion. Everytime you wanna switch countries before your merc contract is up, just disband your unit and make a new one with a new contract.

I've read the majority of the posts in this thread and I think I remember when you dropped with us in EK when we went FRR, but here's the rub.

Yes, joining a unit and running TS helps a great deal, listening to VOIP, as you noticed RG and our other drop callers use VOIP, but there's more to it. You're running with the same guys, time in and time out. You get to know what the others are going to do without even paying attention to what they are doing. We practice in private lobbies looking at offensive runs, defensive plays and watching video's of how to do things.

Getting into a FP match where you get the 1, 2 maybe 3 guys that just won't listen... that's when we get frustrated. That's when we form the 12 man, even with other trusted SJ unit members and then run FP. That or we just don't run FP.

If your running the pre-made 12 man it can be a PUG stomp or a really damn good match when you're up against another 12 man.

You want to build the FP population, the time is past, I'm sorry it just is. We're talking about drawing old FP players back to the game-mode. We'll see it with the new 'features' they are bringing in but so many of us need the depth and that's why the population increase will be relatively short lived.

I'll tell you what my 18 yr old son said about MWO last year. The graphics are bad, the game play is clunky and to get anything good takes way to long or you have to spend too much money. If he wants a FPS, he plays the new Modern Warfare reboot, Titanfall 2 and Counter Strike:GO. We talk about FP here and there and he his response is "that's just sad". Given the way the forums have been for the last couple of months I showed him the video of Bryan Ekman and he was blown away with what CW/FW/FP was supposed to be.

If PGI were to deliver the game they sold us on in 2013 then we've got a shot of seeing a return of old FP players and possibly an influx of new.

i hope they eliminated separate attack and defend queues, its most effective of making sure pugs are always on the opposite side of organized units. also pugs rarely got actual defensive games, a unit would queue up, and would ghost drop before the pug side could muster a team, the result is the pugs being on a counter attack. so as a pug you are more often than not on the disadvantageous side of an engagement. if pgi fails to fix these issues, it will be greatly disappointing.

So the solution is to just let the mode die ad keep it as a practice ring for comp units, until they get bored in which case who cares, its THEIR mode and they have sole claim to it? Thats some bs. I just finished a series of games were a cobled together group of pugs from various units, ran successful attack game after successfull atack game. And we even did a few games against units in defense que. And guess what? We won 90% of our matches, ad the loses came from other skilled pugs who played the game mode continuously. We didnt have to do all this crazy ****, we just needed to be unified through one voice channel, and we were a force to be recconned with. You big units forget, your good because your players ate good. All your practise has limited gains in a battlefield environment. It isnt the damn unit thats letting you win, its your skill, give yourself a little damn credit

And at least give pugs a little god damn respect. Seriously. It is possible to get to unit levels in fw as a pug, and if the game would support it more, youd see more players who could form a well fought out defenses, made of 12 man randos who know each other as good pilots, but maybe werent thinking of dropping because their unit wasnt on. But yall are to stuck with your numbers, and practice rounds and forget the times pugs have beaten you, yes you ek. I was playin with yall and its happened a few times, and the dc was either raged or was ok with it, but you dont consider that pugs are putting up viable defenses, and we have our regulars who know what they are doin. The pugs can be just as good as a unit in fw if its the right pugs, and im asking for an easier way to get those pugs together, and easier ways for the community to train up new mechwarriors.

Plus, an mmo really needs a social hub, otherwise its just deathmatch que in 9 different flavors of kill, just like call of dutys multiplayer. It isnt really an immersive, mmo universe pupulated by people, and many have stated on the IS side, and this is true for me as well, its the people who keep us coming back. Some admitadly make me wanna unninstal, but the others bring me back.
/end rant.

The new players will come. Were already seeing returns rom old players, hyped after mechcon. As long as fw is on par with or better than qp, people will choose it for its galaxy affecting results, and that feel of being in something bigger. And your 18 year old doesnt speak for the majority. my friends in our early 20s like the game. My other friends just cant run it on their ****** college budget computers.

What you will find is the 'professional' pugs as they are called are the ones pulling 3k damage a match and are carrying you through the match for the win. At some point most of the 'professional' pugs were in a unit and decided to go solo for various reasons.

The majority of pugs listen when someone calls and most appreciate it, the amount of times I have DC'ed and the amount of friend invites you get after DC'ing is testament to that, always got 1-3 friend invites at the end of a match. At the same time there are pugs that just sit back and damage pad, sit up high in the drop zone with large lasers while everyone else dies. They tend to use the other pugs as meat shields so they can damage pad. That doesnt make them a good player, it just makes them someone who can pull damage.

Ok, back the heck up and chill with the attitude. I did not say or imply any of that in my post. I explained why Units do as well as they do and how our unit, EK, uses practice sessions and video's to gain a better understanding of the flow of the game mode. In no way am I implying that PUG groups or matches can't have a successful attack or defense against an organized unit. They can, they do.

PUG's get all the respect that they deserve. My comment on PUGs are limited to those that don't want to play with the group. You've seen it, I've seen it. They turn into potato bait and can have a real negative impact on the match, full PUG group or with a 6-11 man organized unit group. It really doesn't matter, potato is potato.

As for losing to a PUG group, yep EK has lost to PUG groups. There are times when we just mess it all up. No biggy, move onto the next match.

MWO needs more than just what it has for a social hub, but really they do have faction chat, match chat and unit chat, so in that regards I think they've got it covered. Unless of course you want a general chat... which in MWO may not be the best thing for the community. That or we need to get some flame retardant chat filters going on.

Overall Nat, I think you're perspective of units is quite a bit skewed. Sure there are those out there that take the Unit Rep to the next level and push buttons, but for the most part every unit that I've been in have been pretty cool. Guys/Gals that don't want to join a unit... well it's your choice. I just find that I get a better sense of community when I'm in a group with like minded individuals that are focused on winning. In CW/FW/FP that unit is Exiled Keshik.

See you on the other side of the gun.
