So AC2 or bigger guns? I have the loyalty and arrow already. I want a third for mastery.

Not even a question - Blackjack BJ-1.

35% AC/2 Cooldown
-25% AC/2 Heat Generation
+30% AC/2 Velocity

It's a monster, pure and simple, and more important then that - It's fun. The amount of AC/2 rounds you can slam out is startling, and it just tears stuff apart. Takes some gameplay adjustments to get it right (The Blackjack isn't very good at staying alive when staying out long enough to really get some damage out of the AC/2s, so you have to play the ambusher, and try to sow confusion, which isn't hard with the rate of fire on this thing).

Then 1X.

I'm likely in the minority these days, but AC/2 spam still doesn't impress me that much. I've mastered all the BJs, though, and they're all fun. Well, except the 2. That thing is trash.

The BJ-1DC is capable of a 40-point Gauss-Vomit with MedLas at 87 kph. And it isn't a joke with it. The very short burn on the lasers makes the poke quite powerful, actually, and the cooldown on the ballistic lets you keep the DPS up when hot. I like it a lot. You can also do 3xLL+3x ML for a very strong laser poke.

I'm not really a fan of the BJ-1. Every loadout is better on the 1DC except AC/2, and I find the JJs don't add much otherwise. You can do the AC/20 thing on it, but I can do it on the 1DC with better synchronized MPL and the jumping won't save you. The energy quirks on the BJ-1 are adequate, but the 1DC is stellar.

All that said, the BJ-1X is the must-have. 6xMPL+2xSL on an XL280 is a beast. If you keep to a smaller engine, you can get an exceptional 48 or 52 point poke out of it, too.

You could potentially fit more lasers with gauss with the BJ-1DC, but you don't really have the tonnage or the cooling to run it well. The 1DC has the extra energy hardpoints yes, but the extra ones are low in its torsos, meaning you are exposing much more of your fragile mech to use them, It also has a lesser twist range then the BJ-1, and also, the 1DC has no jumpjets, which are potentially useful in saving your *** or clinching a kill.

the BJ-1 has enough laser hardpoints to be meaningful alongside its ballistics, is decently quirked for the builds it could run, and has those lifesaving, helpful jumpjets available. It is not miles ahead of the 1DC by no means, but it has the options and the efficiency to be considered better.

If you are open to considering the energy focused variants...

the BJ-1X is not quite the must-buy it used to be, but it still is sufficiently different enough from the other chassis' to consider. Personally, I don't care for it. It has a crappy twist range, making it difficult to track fast movers and enemies moving to your side, has no JJ so you cant WTFsurprise! people or save your *** by changing elevation. It was so much better when it had better quirks, not the excessive structure quirks, but the laser duration and heat generation quirks that made it good.

I might still be a little bitter about that maybe.

The BJ-3 is kinda meh, if you want PPC's, it'll be your go to Blackjack. I think the BJ-3 has the same or similar twist range as the 1, and has jumpjets. But if you want to spam light energy weapons, the BJ-1X is a far better choice.

I am of the opinion that Blackjacks are so cheap one should own all the variants.
