A very well spoken and insightful video laying out the promises and trials that PGI has put the community through. Some how a lot of us are still here. Hope they do something miraculous at MechCon.

Now watch this thread get closed so that the only version of that video is deep in the arse end of the forum where nobody will see it. Too much truth is not welcome here in case new players see it and buy fewer mechpacks.

This has already screened in another thread.

It's balanced factual and fair, and does more to demonstrate, the moral vacuum called P.G.I than four years of salty ranting.

Will it change things

No

Even if I refund none, some, or all of my Pre Orders tomorrow, and don't spend another penny, there will be enough people out there keeping the lights on.

Most people playing this game know what P.G.I are by now, and this isn't going to sway people any more than their own feelings will, as it's been known for years, this just packages all the fail up into a tidy 17 minute recorded film

I was here at the beginning. I played the closed Beta. I listened and read the lofty goals that PGI set for themselves in developing this game and I viewed them with what I considered a healthy dose of scepticism. I had been involved with MWLL for several years at that point and had watched them struggle with achieving goals and constantly moving goal post so I doubted PGI would fare much better. I did spend some money on MWO but was not a Founder. Then RL intervened and I left for 4+ years.

I returned in January of this year so I missed most of the drama that has turned other Vets like myself so bitter. What I came back to was a surprisingly good game which surpassed my initial expectations for it.

I played CW initially with a Clan unit. I was not impressed because despite being fun the first couple of times, I was never involved in a competitive game. When I dropped with the Clan, we roll stomped the opposition. When I dropped as a solo or in a small group we got rolled. The maps were all the same and the objectives made no sense. I wrote off CW and moved on to QP.

In QP, I found the game I was looking for. It was at least as good as any previous MechWarrior title that I had ever played. Yes, there was no single player element to the game but in previous games I had completed the single player campaigns in a few hours and moved to PvP anyway so I did not miss that. The Mechs looked great. They moved well. The MechLab was better than anything I had ever seen before. The customization was good. The maps were, for the most part, very good with minimal obstructions or dark holes. There were lots of other players to shoot at that kicked my a$$ on a regular basis.

I loved it then and I still love it now. Yeah, I think it could be so much more than it is now. Jarl provides a lot of great facts about the history of MWO and the shortcomings of PGI during the games development. PGI fell into the same trap that a lot of developers do. They set unreachable goals for themselves and they painted themselves into a corner by setting definitive dates for things to happen. There is a reason why successful companies like Blizzard (and many others) avoid doing that. The backlash when you cannot achieve a goal or make a deadline can be intense. This is even more the case if you are crowdfunded and many of your customers consider themselves shareholders and members of the Board of Directors.

Like Jarl, I like MechWarrior Online and want it to continue to improve. I appreciate the facts that he has presented in this video. It helps to fill in some of the gaps during my absence from the game. I understand the bitterness of some of the Vets. I still fail to understand the toxicity of some of the newer players that were not here during those days but still jumped on the "PGI hate bandwagon". There have been a couple of disappointments for me in the time I have been back but they are overshadowed by the fun I have every time I play MWO.

I am excited about the information that will be shared at Mech_Con but I will remain a skeptic. That way I will be satisfied with small incremental changes that improve the game, surprised by big changes that improve the game and not disappointed when things that I would like to see in the game either do not happen or take much longer than I would like them too.

Jarl, Thank You for the history lesson. I see no reason why making it would get you banned. What should happen is that Russ, Bryan and Paul should watch it and say, "Yeah, we have made mistakes. We need to learn from them and do better going forward." It is, after all, in their best interest to do so because, we, the customer, hold the keys to their continued success when it is all said and done.
