ok, considering all the games that have just made their own mechs out of the blue, the roughneck is at least an upgraded industrialmech that actually exists in the battletech universe. can we discuss how cool that is? i know theres a lot of rage, but this has been a thing in the bt universe with militias, so pgi just made a canon version that is a probably going to be a viable mech. lets all take a chil pill. that industrialmech thing is cool AF too me.

believe me naysayers, it took me several hours to get to this point m,entally, but finding the industrial mech it was based off of on sarna was the selling point for me.

I can think of other mechs that are much cooler than a refitted industrial mech.

Except AFAIK, the Loader King never existed in lore, and they made it appear out of nowhere.

A retrofitted industrial mech repurposed for combat? Well, it's better than Starscream's origins. He was originally an Autobot Librarian!

Really? that's it? huh. I thought it was a refitted Argomech of some sort. Those are the ones more commonly refitted by militias and insurgents and they appear pretty frequently in books.Especially dark age books(the HPG net being down gave rise to ALOT of ill timed/fated revolutions).

Though I think http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Lumberjack is closer to the roughneck's basis even close to it's weight. When I first saw it I thought those were chainsaws and I got excited.....then I remembered MWO doesn't do anything new or interesting with the franchise and calmed the eff down.

So was Optimus Prime. His original name was Orion Pax iirc. Transformers generally don't have epic origins.

There are so many canon mechs that people want. I see absolutely nothing interesting/enticing about this mech. I do not understand why PGI would make a mech out of thin air when there are so many other things to work on. Matchmaker, new maps, new weapons, SLI, modes, reworking Clan wars or whatever its called, even put out mechs that a lot of us grew up playing. Sunder, Blood asp, Mad cat Mk ii, Annihilator. PvE might be interesting. Just so many other things that could be done before they start making up mechs.

Well, would love nothing more than an Urbanmech IIC -- but at least PGI is trying to be original.

Would be nice to see the Classics finished.

They were probably planing on making their own Mech for some time, and considered the Con to be an appropriate moment do present something “special” and get away with it.

I don’t mind them doing so. Ugly man-like war robots from the 80s are no better anyway, so why not.
Don’t need to buy it though.
Actual chainsaws on the other hand… wait: on bot hands! Functioning chain swords on both hands, and give them to a red fainted Atlas or Night Gyr! Yes, this is what would save MWO if FW ceases to get fixed. I’m totally sure of that, because OH LOOK A FLYING SKULL!

It's fine, except the long hands, not sure how that's gonna turn out in 3D.

Is it played on a retrofitted CW mode that doesn't suck? If so, yeah that would be "epic". If not, then it is just another f--ing mech pack.

Love MOD's - I've always liked the periphery type mechs, and not every mech warrior is going to be dropping in a brand new factory mech. Think about the ragged outposts, the poor rebels or the hackjob repairs made throughout the life of a war machine that is built to last a few centuries.

Conceptually, I love the Arbiter - http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Arbiter makes me think of Russia's inflatable army.

The Sarna description of Roughneck says it is based off of an industrial mech called Loader King, not Powerman. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Roughneck

And if you click the Loader King link, the mech does not exist. Basically PGI made a non-canon battlemech out of non-canon industrial mech. The whole thing is non-canon.
