I have read so many people say this is not canon. That is not true.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Dig_Lord

The Roughneck is a new name given to something that has been in the lore for some time: the militarized version of the Dig Lord. PGI is rebranding not inventing.

(My bad on Cannon instead of Canon)

It's supposed to be a Loader King though. Not a Dig Lord or Dig King.

But yeah, it's a pretty cool way to make a new mech. Just a shame they decided to do it with a 65 ton heavy battlemech instead of a 30 ton light mech (Dig King).

Dig lord is from 3057, it is obvious that it isn't a rebranding of the Dig Lord or they would have said so.

OP -- it's similar because it's based off of a industrial mech genre, but it's not a canon mech. They made that very clear during Mechcon.

Secondly, why does splitting hairs over it even matter. It's a new mech.

So I take the Dig King and Loader King to be the same industrial mech put to the different purposes. Dig lord is the 65 ton remake of the Dig king. Likewise the Roughneck is 65 tons. The militarized equipment for the Dig Lord is:
Developed in the Calderon Protectorate to augment their thin defense forces, the Dig LordArmed Mining 'Mech is protected by eight tons of Heavy Industrial Armor. It also removes the traditional equipment used in the Dig Lord and replaces it with a single MML-5 with two tons of ammunition, a Heavy Rifle mounted in a BattleMech Turret on the left torso, and a Medium VibroBlade in the right arm. The vibroblade is made more deadly with the addition of an Actuator Enhancement System. This 'Mech isn't intended to face dedicated BattleMech forces, but instead support vehicles and infantry against lighter units. BV (2.0) = 698[6][7]

C
ompare that to an AC10, SRM4, SL, and MG's.

1) the evidence speaks to the contrary. Actually read about the Dig Lord and its militarized forms. I did not just link it out of boredom.

2) Because this is the top reason people are complaining about this mech.

Catalyst games has blessed it with Canon-hood, from what I heard. Truly PGI has learned well after 4 years of forum rage storms.

the militarized version is a different mech altogether. from what i heard this is a produced, fringe mech, based from an industrial source that was put into production to face the clans after they destroyed most of the militaries equipment. the militarized industrialmechs are industrial mechs with weapons thrown on haphahazardly by techs with a dream and a welder. this one was rebuilt using the industrial mech as a starting point, and building it from the ground up as a battlemech. that means it has the structural integrity and ammunition loading capabilities to mount the big guns and be a battlemech.

they're entirtely different. one's a ford f750 (dear god those exist) and the other is a ford f150 thats been lifted, with monster truck wheel thrown on, the underside sawed off haphazardly to make room for them, and cardboard walls ducktaped to the sides of the bed and spraypainted to make it look bigger. major differences.

There is wriggle room for it, Achernar are cited as building a lot of different IndustrialMechs, but Loader King is definitely not an existing design.

Dig Lord... Dig King... Yeah I'm pretty sure I know why they didn't associate the Roughneck with those names, with the way the mech looks.

Nope.

Industrialmechs are powered by internal combustion engines, batteries, or a fuel cell system.
Industrialmechs don't have reactors to power energy weapons, so they mount chemical lasers which have limited ammo.
Industrialmechs carry light plate armor that can barely stand up to machine gun fire.

The Roughneck is NOT canon.

The Roughneck is not based on the Dig Lord, and any simularities there may be (And there are only a few) are likely from sharing influences and design ideals, not from direct relation.

Industrial Mechs actually predate Battlemechs by a few years, and likely used fusion engines during the Star League (And prior) era. It's just that Industrial Mechs never got TRO entries until, well... that weird time some people like to pretend didn't happen.

Well, from the written-up lore of it, Roughneck is NOT an IndustrialMech. It was BASED on an IndustrialMech and is equipped with Battlemech grade equipment.

Besides, canon is whatever the guys holding the rights to Battletech say it is.

Doesn't matter what the industrial is, if pgis contract allows them to make new mechs or they went to catalyst/hbs n said hey does this meet approval? The fact is the mech is canon like it or not
