Which Mech Pack Should I Get?

Not sure which one I want though. They unfortunately don't have a king crab or dire wolf one, I really want to try those 2 bad boys out, guess I will get them with cbills eventually.
So I got lucky with the linebacker being fun as heck, but I am not really sure which other mech is worth getting. I obviously want a good fun mech to play with so I'm asking the experts which one I should spend my hard earned money on. I would hate to waste 20 bucks on a stinker.
So what do you guys think?
Also I know things are changing with the skill tree and all, but I am just coming back to the game and I'm having a good time so I'm gonna just blindly trust pgi will not make having multiple varents pointless.

And at least you could do something different with the variants build wise
Even if not and you only keep the kdk 3
Selling 2 clan xl 400 engines gives you enough cbills to get at least one king crab, maybe close enough to 2
Or 1 king crab and close enough to a dire
Which you only need one variant to master, and you can switch pods on the dire anyway
Don't know the ingame value for it from the top of my head though (the clan xl400)
But it's high
You can do the ol switching out engine if you really have to like in the good ol days when we all started small

I'm not really set on anything. I'm happy with anything that is a goodtime to play. I don't want something that sucks but it doesn't have to be top teir either , just fun.
I will play pretty much anything but missleboats. I have heard alot about the Kodiak but I'm not too sure about it because my next 2 mechs I buy with cbills are going to be assaults.

Take the Linebacker you love for example. The reason it is such an enjoyable mech is due to the mobility, armor and structure quirks it gets to make it competitive. Without the quirks, it would probably be a DOA mech, I mean it is a 65 ton heavy mech with the free tonnage of a 20 ton Adder, without the quirks that is. With the new system, PGI is removing all quirks and we do not know yet if you will be able to re-create the Linebacker as it is right now or not, nor whether the system would end up buffing or nerfing the Linebacker. We also don't know how much grinding to get it skilled up is going to be required. Per the Mechcon video it was going to cost 750k XP to master a Linebacker or something like 500 matches played. They have since twittered that it won't be that bad but we still don't know the final numbers so even if not that bad, it could still end up being bad.
So with all the changes in the pipe, I would hold off on any more Mech Pack purchases until we have a better understanding of those changes and see them made official.
Also they are removing the need to buy 3 chassis to be able to master out a mech which may or may not also be a reason to hold off on a mech pack.

Legitimately, take most people's advice and hold off on a cash purchase for now. As long as PGI doesn't have some unexpected delays, major changes are coming, and we really can't give you proper advice on what to buy. It'd be irresponsible to tell you one mech was good when we know for a fact that it could be trash 2 months from now. I am glad you're enjoying the Linebacker though. What builds are you using on it? That would probably help us figure out what to point you towards for c-bill purchases.

Okay but Idk how long it will be before these changes happen and I am just getting back into the game so I would rather live in the moment and enjoy myself with a mechpack. =)

mmm
But if you're not set on anything specific
For 20 bucks you just get a lot of value out of the kdk C-Bills wise
But ehh
If you're new I'd rather suggest something with omnipods since you can switch around hardpoints easier that way without needing mechbays
You ever piloted something as slow and sluggish as a dire?

I'm running twin shoulder ppcs on one and srms and pulses on the other. The third I got with the ballistic hp I havnt really been able to make a build that is different from the other 2 that I like.
I should also point out that I have Timberwolves that I am enjoying and alot of my old mechs I've been playing withI still really like,
My atlas, my catapults (brought out my splatcat last night, yum) my stalkers, ect so I really am open on builds. I just don't normally ply missleboats and I don't own any lights. Other then that I am very open. Heck and really if there is a hero mech that one of you guys want to recommend then hit me with it. As long as it's 20 or less. (That is how much I talked myself into spending)

Stalker is probably my slowest mech.
Sorry I'm not going into more detail on builds and stuff. In my last post. I have a sleeping baby on me atm.

Or kdk
Just a really good assault and a good value, I don't regret buying it and if you need a quick cash flow the clan xl400 are worth a lot
Plays different then my king crab or dire

Well its still going to be awhile before the new skill system is even released, and it still has to hit the PTR first before it gets put into the game, so its going to be awhile. so dont worry about the new skill system yet.
As for mechpacks, if you are interested in versatile mechs and arent picky about the faction, I really do recommend the Marauder. I almost run that chassis as much as I run my KGC's (I have 4 kgc's and thinking about picking up a 5th). While I personally dont love the wrhammer as much as many in the forums, the Warhammer is a pretty decent mech too. If you are looking for more bang for your buck, the Origins IIC collection is a decent mech collection.
Otherwise either buy a master pack of a mech your interested in. I wouldnt recommend getting any of the larger and more expensive collections until you have a better understanding of what you want when it comes to mechs.

I'd wait until the Mad Cat MK II finally gets announced, since it's a superior product!

All jokes aside, if you're determined to buy a pack, the Kodiak is has been sitting on the throne of being the best assault mech for awhile now, the Marauder has always been a tanky and reliable IS heavy, and the Marauder IIC is in all likelyhood going to be great, considering it's just a larger Marauder but with Clan tech.
Still think you should wait though until the skill tree changes/quirk changes, but, it's up to you.

The KDK-3 is the current top dog and due to its engine size, clan tech, lack of omni restrictions and four crazy high torso ballistic hard-points, its unlikely to fade away anytime soon (if at all). And if it does... or you do wish to get rid of it then selling them xl400 engines, other parts and chassis will net you a tidy stack of cBills.
Something to note: You will get prioritised as a target and focused fired no matter which variant of Kodiak you are in.

Are there any heroes that may be a better investment? I have 2 Timberwolves. The hero is only 20 bucks. Or should I just stick with the kodiak mech pack?

If you want something interesting and a little bit challenging, try Archers. Or Riflemen. Or Mist Lynx (

I like the Mist Lynx!! (enjoyed mastering them, almost bought a 4th to rinse and repeat) ...but its considered pretty bad for a reason! As are Archers, which I haven't tried.
