AMS shooting through walls. Why is that a thing? Why does some dude in the basement of HPG get to shoot down my SRMs with his AMS when I am on the top of HPG?

AMS doesn't require LOS. It'll also shoot down LRMs, even if you're behind cover and don't need them to.

I don't think he does unless something just broke.

Now, his ams will go off in the basement, or in a tunnel, or on the other side of an obstacle, but as far as I recall any obstacle in the way stops AMS.

The bigger complaint, is why is his AMS firing without any line of sight?

Yeah it fires underground because of how the software responds to missile flight path code, but it doesn't actually go thru the ceiling to the other side. Otherwise you could park four ECM/AMS Kitfoxes in the basement corners and deny anyone up top streaks and lrms.

Bad coding by PGI. It would be a very nice thing if AMS could only shoot at missiles it has sight on.

Problem is, it gives your position away... I've found a few hiding AMS equipped mechs behind cover... even one behind our blob - probably forgot to turn it off before sneaking up on us...

This, it hits the walls. If you're in an enclosed space and not being attacked with streaks, I always recommend disabling your AMS until going back outside.

The way AMS is coded, it fires at missiles within a certain distance, whether or not it can actually hit them.

Yet they can develop a completely New game and it won't interfere with ongoing development of MWO Posted Image

The AMS uses armor AND wall piercing ammunition. I thought this was obvious?

Could it possibly be an engine and performance issue?

If they're hiring new people and the resources to employ them, sure they can. All it takes is an investor - as far as I know we don't know where that money came from. And hey, doesn't the new game use a different engine? Hasn't PGI been wanting to upgrade the MWO engine for years? Hm... /ninjasmiley

It also doesn't do any damage when it hits your mech either.

Oh that'd be evil if it did... kind of like exploiting the soon to be departing long tom. If you're locked and receiving LRMs and have AMS...run amongst the enemy at face hugger range... between incoming LRMs hitting friendly mechs and an AMS trying to shoot thru their own units to intercept the missiles... especially if you were behind something with weak rear armor...

But yes, I always turn off my AMS going into the HPG basement or Crimson tunnel and usually VOIP warn teammates to do it also. At least once a day I get someone asking how to do that.
