Considering Returning

What I would like to know is about my investment in mechs which are now of 3 to 4-years-old.
Are they still worth anything, or have they been made obsolete?

None are top tier, but most hold their own
RIP Jenner (and all lights), though

Depends on the mechs (like it did then, really) - some are better, some are worse, depending on how they made out in the quirk lottery.
What mechs do you have?

if not. get a marauder. then youll be fine.
plus itll be better to get in now so you have a large amount of xp to mess around with when the skill tree gets revamped. maybe wait till december 13th to try faction warfare 4.1 if thats a big selling point for you.

Other than that, people here will be (hopefully) glad to help you getting back in the saddle.

Atlas D-DC is still one of the best mechs in the game when mastered, outfitted properly and piloted well.

It really depends on what your doing. QP I would say that all mechs are still viable if played and built well. Some of the older mechs like the Victor aren't in a good place but you can still do well with them.

The as7-ddc and S are still excellent, the stalkers and jm6 still do quite well, the jester is great. Shadowhawks are alright. Lights are ki d of in a bad place but some locusts are quite solid given they're much smaller than they used to be AND sport very strong quirks. You're fine.

DDC is love, DDC is life.
If it's not the spider with 4 mgs and a superlaser then it's not a good spider.
Catapult-Jester is one of the best heavies.
Jagers are obsolete but not necessarily bad
LOLcust is really good.
Shadow hawks are ok, saved by the grace of high mounts and jumpjet capability.
Uhh.. strip the victor for parts but don't ditch it before the new skill tree.
Stalkers will never fall out of being pretty competitive mechs because of the high mounts and hardpoints. They're just not The Best of the Best
Centurion is outclassed but not obsolete, if that makes any sense. You just have to be excellent at shielding and not running an XL.

IIRC, I did the 3 mechs to learn skills on most, if not all the lines, even if I only have one now. I would buy one, get the exp, sell it and go on to the next.
I don't know if the mastery skill I did in 2012/13 still apply, but that kind of stuff I can figure out once I get into the game.
I was just concerned about having to start over with Mechs. It just seems that there are so many new ones, I just assumed they would cause the old ones to not be viable.

Your builds might not be viable, but many of the chassis you own are still viable with updated builds. At worst, throw 3 large pulse laswrs on a mech and call it a day

The AH with 3xSRM4 + AC20 still hits like a truck though, just have to bide your time. The A version (free NCIX) also does very well with 3xSRM6 + 2ML (or 2 flamers).
Best bet is to find an active group that's playing right now, get on Teamspeak and ask some more direct questions regarding current meta and builds that can work within how the game is being played right now.
