Escort Service? So you gotta pay the Atlas for a "date" and might get lucky at the end!

I'm surprised it took as many posts as it did to get a response like this.

On a serious note though.....

Escort.. yeaaaaah... Only way the Atlas can stay alive is if it takes a different random route every time, stays with the group, and fights back..

Also, it will need some considerable structure buffs.. since, basically the only protection against sniping it or LURM'ing it down will be body blocking..

Remember back when in CW, you only had the Omega cannon, and people would just light-rush it, and that was it, game over?

Now the omega will be moving.. but the same strategy will work..

I think it needs to be a convoy of multiple target mechs. Or maybe 2 decoy Atlases taking 2 different routes, otherwise, yeah, it's going to be tough to make it fair. A coordinated lance of light mechs will end the match pretty bloody quick.

There are ONLY two times I've ever seen Escort work. Team Fortress 2 - Escorting the bomb and Counter Strike VIP.

In the first case, TF2 had good if not great game mechanics, really excellent design. The bomb would only move if you were in close proximity and it didn't have hit box locations or a weak back armour. On top of which good map design, there were some choke points but nice dynamic game play.

This is the same with CS, the old VIP map was good because one person was randomly the VIP. You had 200 armour and your team needed to work together to keep you alive. Plus you had good map design and a sound base of game mechanics.

I don't see any of this in the Escort Service mode.

PGI is notorious for its maps and choke points and and I don't have any faith in the AI of the Atlas. Anyone who's driven an Atlas knows its a huge target with no ability to dodge and you actively need to spend a lot of time torso twisting. Most of the VIP maps I've seen are all CQB too with multiple angles and vertically advantageous spots.

Really, they need to make it player chose or randomly chosen not AI. It just solves a lot of the problems and makes Escort mode better for teamwork since the key variable (the VIP) isn't solely reliant on good AI. Otherwise we have Golden Eye Online...

Read my quoted text. I Wrote only a answer to an other forumuser.

Nevertheless, escort in an team based MP is not a good idea. The team, that have to kill the VIP WILL have an giant advantage...

Oh, the mode will be terrible I'm sure. I can hear the cries of "don't shoot the mvp or the match will be a waste of time" now.

If they have not set the rewards for completing the objectives to be much more lucrative than just doing damage and collecting kills then there is no doubt of that happening. As it is, there is nothing that pisses off the skirmish lovers more than a Assault base cap or losing a Conquest match on points.

I like the idea. But I have the feeling that the Atlas that stomps straight through the map will be shot down in seconds by Gauss/PPC/ER-LL.

Surely it'll get some extra armor points here and there, but without twisting, using cover and having a known and predictable path it always takes... how can you keep it alive?

I hear it has crabs down below and an STD. If I saw it coming my way, I'd run.

Hopefully, it'll be wearing heels and hot pants.

The maps are going to be the biggest let down to an Escort mission, most are way to small, and come on guys how many different routs are there to getting from A to B on most of these maps? really..

My guess is that the collision detection will be where the exploit lies.

As in it walks all the way across the map and then bumps into something and then walks all the way back.

What happens if the enemy team surrounds it on all sides? The game crashes?

You know, even on the first day, there's gonna be blow outs where one team is 100% dead and the other team spends an extra 11 minutes messin' with the Atlas just to see how it reacts.

I can't wait for the reports.

The answer to this mode: WHY NOT BOTH?

For the non-escorters to win they must:
1. Destroy the Atlas (no headshot, cause dead VIP is worthless)
2. Stand on the Atlas's corpse to capture the VIP (conquest cap point on its body)

Escorts can pick up VIP from the downed Atlas if all attackers are eliminated.

Realistically, I don't even think the game mode will get that far. People are stat ****** in this game. The moment you go down a couple mechs most teams on defense are just going to run for the hills to protect their KDRs. They'll probably even figure out ways to game whatever penalties are put in place to put the VIP down themselves...
