Hello guys and girls, something just intrigued my mind about MWO so I made this post.

I have stopped playing MWO for some unknown reasons - mostly boredom, I guess. Anyway, after seeing so much negativity towards the new Macbook Pro (not that I intend on buying one, you just see videos about it everytime you're on Youtube), I went to the internet searching for infos to see how the sales fare. Despite my strong initial asumption, lo and behold, articles like this and this telling me that its sale already beats any other notebook released in 2016!

So I went back to thinking about MWO and wondered if a similar case applies to our beloved game (yes, I know you love it!). Does the forum's almost perpetual passive aggressive attitude towards PGI and the hints of negativity really reflect how the majority of the player base thinks about it? I went to Steam and saw that the recent score is 87%, which is a very good one indeed.

So what do you think about it dear ForumWarriors? Does MWO and the current development of Battletech make PGI prosperous as a game dev? Does hardcore BT Whales' salt really serve anything? Would MW5:Mercs be greatest MW game evar? Will we ever get a Light before MWO dies? Will Imperius finally get his Mad Cat Mk. II?

Say you're a Machead, your office is mac based, whatever. You are in need of a new portable computer. What are you going to buy? You buy a macbooc because that is what is available to you. In essence you have no choice.

Say you want to play a video game with the stompy robots of the Mechwarrior and BattleTech universes. What are you going to play?

Exclusive licenses and monopolies on intellectual property can be a real b--ch sometimes.

While obviously not the same IP, a BT classic rival from the 90's is making it's debut on steam early access on the 15th of December... Heavy Gear Assault. Clearly a different feel as HG is more Mechanized infantry than lumbering tanks, but what I've played so far (early alpha) is that the mechs feel/move good, so far level design is interesting. Pretty interesting and I'm very much looking forward to that addition to the genre again after all this time. BT and HG were/are my Favorite mech games on TT or PC. And it's using UE4 too, so the competition is getting ready to take the field again. It's a good year for Mech stuff.

early on i had the option to play living legends, and i did that for some time. it was only when dev stopped and the servers started getting sparse that ive switched over. just before the clan invasion. since that time mwo has moved forward considerably. i played the community edition for awhile. mwll had some great mechanics, the way it did electronic warfare was superb and the mech combat had a nice mechwarrior style pace. but im too involved with mwo at this point to switch back, my collection is huge, i got mech packs on the way and im trying to master a bunch of mechs before the new skill trees rear their ugly head. there is always something new (just not the things i want, like new weapons).

when i had an option i chose not this. its only when the option was removed that i dove into the deep end on mwo. now im stuck here until something better comes along.

Unlike Macs, which are overpriced and underpowered, kind of like Alienware actually, I have a few choices.

1.MW:Mercs/Mektek
2.MW:O
3.Any of the older MechWarrior Titles.
4.Tabletop.

While the me of 5 years ago would have agreed with you about Alienware, I got to say that alienware has really stepped up its game (the area 51 are still overpriced, but their more standardized desktops are roughly equivalent priced compared to their competitors in gaming desktops). I actually just got myself an Aurora R5, with 32 gigs of ram, nvidia 1070 founders edition graphics card, 4.2gz cpu for roughly the same price as what most other competitors were doing for black friday sale with comparable specs. While I would say that alienware is still a little pricey (compared to if you were building it yourself), but not having to deal with driver issues and having a warranty is a nice peace of mind (built my wife a serious 3d graphic/animation workhorse PC about 2 years ago, have had driver issues with it from the get-go which causes serious headaches every once in awhile).

As for other mech games...Theres Hawken if you you are still young enough to play twitch shooters. Theres the older armored core games (I personally like AC2 and AC3 Last Raven the most, was not a huge fan of AC4 or For Answer, but AC5 Verdict Day wasnt bad). Otherwise there isnt a whole lot of market demand for mech combat games like there is for other niche game genre's like metroidvania or terraria/starbound/minecraft.

PGI and Apple are the same company.

The similarities are quite striking:

You can't reason with Apple Diehards. They will buy any scraps that Apple throws their way, be thankful for them, and then try to convince you that Apple invented it first and designed it better.

You can't reason with MWO Forum Diehards either. But that's because they're sick and tired of the scraps PGI sends their way ;)

PS: After four years of being abused by the game I want to love, I count myself as "aggressive aggressive", not "passive aggressive".

Just remember the forums are full of the vocal minority. And people who are generally satisfied with something aren't going to make a post about "everything is fine".

Yeah, I'm part of that minority

If I was buying a "performance" laptop from Dell, I'd skip the Alienware and go right to their Precision mobile workstations. A much better value overall, as it's enterprise level gear.
