I bought that game too. Partly because it's Battletech, but mostly because of how the guys treat their community. Plus it seems they genuinely love the franchise and care about the game. What I can't believe is that I'm actually sad about MW5. I feel like a kid who just found out Santa isn't real at the same time he saw his dog get hit by a truck. This sucks.

You and me both. I watched the video, almost got lulled into thinking it was a PVE element for MWO, but then the reality set in. It was truly a let down and watching everyone take the bait and get excited for it made me even more. If it were another dev maybe I'd be more excited. I just have too much experience with this one to have a shred of confidence in the delivery and product.

(Its also probably because I love the IP too much)

I just farted. It smelled like onions and ketchups, presumably an after-thought of the meatloaf I had for lunch.

...This seemed like the kind of thread to share this in.

No preorders? Bah...
I usually buy games only after they're acutally finished, with all DLCs and whatnot. Usually a year or two after the release. To pay for an actually finished product.

The business plan is to announce a new Mechwarrior game every 2 years. Sell a few thousand copies to the fan boys, then on to the new Mechwarrior title.

Another battletech oriented game? Well, I suppose it goes without saying that I'll blindly buy into it! Posted Image

Gosh, I think I just threw up a little bit, too. Posted Image

Oh hells yes.

Im in for $60 to get the main 12 hours of content. Then, I'm totally gonna buy 140 different mechs and replay that 12 hours until I know all the lines by heart.

To be fair it's not just PGI, the whole gaming industry has gone to ****. Console games got everyone used to buying a "new" version every year, and PC games release everything before it's ready and spend the next 6 months getting the game dialed in. Everyone pre-orders crap so the devs make all their projected profits long before the game is even released, so they don't have the financial motivation to really dial things in. I think gamers are wising up though, after so many kick-starter scams and crap pre-orders, so hopefully this phase in the industry is winding down.

There's that, and then there's steam selling more early access games than finished games. I can see doing early access for one or maybe two special somethings if you're truly keen, but I'm pretty sure the biggest demographic is kids using mommy's money to buy piles of unfinished crap.

Then again, look at what I bought here. ^^

Exactly.
My favourite example is widely beloved Bethesda with their widely belowed Skyrim that, after over 5 years, 3 dlcs and a remastered edition, still is rigged with same bugs the 1.0 version had, because they didn't bother to even try to fix most of them
I just trew up a little.

Is PGI actually making MW5? Another Mechwarrior game led by Russ or is someone else leading the project? I'm having a hard time using words at the moment.

I know, 16 years since the last MW campaign game! Many of us are having a hard time using words. PGI is the only company in the world who cares enough about MechWarrior to keep the franchise alive by actually making and publishing it with proper legal rights.

Makes you pretty thankful, for PGI, no?

That's definitely a glass half full way of looking at it. They did brush the dust off Mechwarrior, but they did a **** job with it, and I have zero faith in them turning over a new leaf with this new project. All they're really doing is hogging the license for another 5 years, and keeping a real company from possibly picking up the franchise. While I can be thankful to PGI for getting this franchise rolling again, I'm not even playing MWO, so I can't be thankful that they're dragging out this **** iteration of Mechwarrior.

I don't see this as being all that complicated, ultimately, they can do a MW2 reboot into the Unreal engine, keep the dang thing, plot lines, etc. all the same if they want to, and it'd be pretty cool just that way.

Minimal effort, lots of us morons buying it and having a blast. Later, after we've played a few hundred hours would we realize... "Hey... this is the same as MW2... Oh well..."
