Like, seriously. I can understand wanting to go for a broader market, but why the hell did FASA change the design of the mechs around? I mean, look at them!

I know the Japanese are all into this curvy, smooth, bulbous design for their mechs, but come on FASA. That's just offensive.

I'm not sure if you're trying to lay bait for a Harmony Gold thread on purpose, or if you're just bumbling your way into one.

EDIT: Also, offensive? ***** sake.

Japanese market has... different taste. I'm just surprised that those mechs cannot transform into ultra mode.

For the same reason Car companies make cars that look different in different countries.

Sales, Safety, Laws, Consumer Reasons, Materials available, aesthetics...

The list really can go on forever.

Wasp and Stinger that looked like Macross mechs as well, models were taken from different artists to make life easier for BT creators and appeal to different markets.

If you dont like them, dont look at them, posting them on this forum is just a troll bait post.

Original designs are too ugly and sluggish for modern Japanese tastes. Form > function.

Some of the original artwork from the first editions of battletech were purchased from a company that claimed they owned the rights to the art in the US. The story of how that turned out is a **** show for another time.

What that means here, however, is that FASA didn't have the rights to some of their mechs in Japan because of the artwork, so they had to redo them, and they did some of the original ones as well for consistency.

Alright for consistency I can understand, but did the Stalker - AKA The Blimp - really have to undergo THIS much plastic surgery?

And this is why I don't like Japanese Mecha anime. Nothing seems grounded in realism.

Yes and no.

FASA contracted someone else to make them, so yes, it's official work. But it's non-canon and I don't think actually owned by Catalyst, so they're kind of treated as 'Unseen.' Their actually legal status is beyond me, though my guess is that neither the guys who drew them, nor Catalyst, give a **** about them.

Legal or not, at least the Spider finally looks good in some form.

Battletech is actually the postal child of "re-interpretation". The mechs of Battle Tech Mmechs have modified forms so many times... what is the real design?

Even when you compare old Battletech lore books to new Battletech lore books to Mechwarrior series to MWO. They are all re-interpretations.

Like how America changes all ethnicities of heroes in movies to white, like how Superman costume and looks always change, etc. Battletech Mech design changes to suit the new designer, the audience and the times.
