Will Mw5 Be Offline?

Will Mechwarrior 5 be offline? Or will it be another EA SimCity disaster where we have to maintain an online connection with PGI servers to play the game, and also accept any patches they throw our way?
I know that it's single purchase, so you own everything in the game when you buy it and there are no micro-transactions or subscriptions. But will I be able to play it offline? That's the most important issue about MW5 for me. I want to own a copy, not just rent the ability to play the game.
PS: I'm not talking about the possibility of multiplayer coop missions / campaigns. That's a different kettle of fish, and although it would be pretty amazing to be able to run those on private servers instead of PGI servers, it's not my primary concern at the moment.

Steam I wouldn't mind (because then 2 hour refund)

I hope they don't go down this rabbit whole.. Since PGI provided one of the rare truly Free2Play titles, I hope they extend the same in their approach for MW5..

It's a pure SP game with no multiplayer component.
I do not see the reason to have you logging somewhere to play...

That's what people said about EA's SimCity. It's an attempt to stop piracy, but it also means you don't have the right to play the game unless their server lets you.

Youre truly deluded if you think that, you can choose either 1)legit version which requires good connection on your side and working servers for company(hello error 37) or 2)pirated version which works just fine without internet connection...
**** i pirated quite a few singleplayers after buying them just to avoid being on sake of company servers.

Logging in per sea, not all the time, but an "account" is usually needed or at least an internet connection to play.

With PGI developing it I think a far more pressing question is; Will MW5 actually be delivered?

I think PGI's survival as a company depends on it coming out, they only have one revenue stream ATM [MWO].
Now, the quality of the product that comes out? That's the real thing up in the air.

I really hope that PGI won't follow that route. I am not against DRM, but I do not see why I have to be online to play an offline game. If they want to use some sort of DRM, there are less invasive "e-licensing" softwares.
In short, I won't buy the game if it's online only.
However:
in 2016 I re-discovered Battletech / Mechwarrior with MWO...
in 2017 Battletech game will be out...
in 2018 it will be the turn (I hope) of MW5: Mercs (...and MW 2 Mercs was one of my favorite PC game)
Really a great time to be a BT fan!!!

Agreed. Steam is okay in thet regard. But I would prefer a pure offline game, whichofcoure you canconnect online to download updates and such. I've had it with online authentication BS from certain publishers and developers.Steamand Valve are an exception.
So I hope not MW5M will be always online (even if it have zero mp functions etc). You should be able to feel that you own the darn game and not needing online at all (exception, updates then again optional!)

I got their stupid phone app for authentication, got a new phone and the only way I can get the account reset to the new phone is to send them a photo of me holding my ID.
Yeah... No.
